    Bullbar / Indicator legalities ?

I have an ARB bullbar on my Defender.
It has indicators in the bar which flash in concert with the vehicles indicators.

The reason or this, I assume, is that they are concerned the bar may block visibility of the vehcile indicators.

    1. Does it ACTUALLY block them to teh extent optehrs can;t see them? I don't reckon so
    2. What are tha actual legalities of this.

I'd prefer to replace these with some white LED spill lights if I could.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

If it doesn't block the defenders indicators at the viewing angles required under the ADR's, then I can't see why not, but if it has uprights on the bullbar that block the indicators from a side viewing angle at all, this may not meet the requirements. It's something like being able to be viewed at any angle up to 45 degrees from either side or something to that effect - I'd have to dig up the correct ADR.

Here you go - has some diagrams about visibility and intensity. Having a quick look at them, I doubt any bullbar with an upright protruding above the bumper level would be legal to these standards without incorporating an additional indicator lamp.

Yeah its odd because the indicators in the bar aren't visible AT ALL from the side of the vehicle (anyway that's what the side repeaters in the guard are for), so presumably they are simply to cover off where / if the upright blocks the vehicle indicators. And that will always be an arguable point I suppose. Sigh another good idea down the karzy....

All of them (I hardly ever finish anything). But then again a Defender is never 'finished' is it!

Edit: Hmm, this doesn't give the 'light bar' spill power I was looking for but might be better than nothing...

Vlad, I installed some in my old 93 Tojo's ARB bar and they are an LED light with orange indicator. I'll put some better pics up if you like but it's bucketing down and the 'tilly's in the bottom shed i.e. 80 metres away.

Doesn't the repeater on the side of the mudguard cover the angles blocked by the upright?

I would have thought so, but it would be in the interpretation of the ADR. I have only skimmed through it and no way I’m making a call either way to be honest. Bullbar / Indicator legalities ?
