If he was anything of a brain he would have known he was buggered before he started, but I see the latest theory (caught on fillum) is that the 'Return to Earth Parachute' snagged on launch & with him already being on his way, there was nothing anybody could do about it except maybe hold their breath & pray for him.

Quite, FGS. He may have been an Athiest & couldn't give a toss about the "the Power of Prayer"
but for the onlookers that may have not held true & it would have only been a fleeting quickie anyway. It obviously wasn't going to work for him.
It wasn't my intention to start a religious discussion on the wisdom of his behaviour, he tried & due to unforeseen circumstances (well that may turn out to be incorrect as it happens), he failed, but if people dislike the word "failed"( as some do these days) let us say that he wasn't successful in his endeavors.
