They were always one of the greatest suppliers of Manpower for Crews.

I remember on one of my very early trips to Port Adelaide with my Dad & asking who that "funnily" dressed bloke was on the ship. My Dad explained he was a Lascar. WTF!

(Didn't actually say that or I would have got a kick up the arris). Remember, these were early days after WW2 when dark skinned foreigners were a tad unusual around the place but on the wharves were commonplace it seemed.

Didn't have Google then on my lappy in '47 but found out later.

Yes. Along with the Philippines. Not getting vaccinated will affect society in many different ways, this virus is proving to be a lot harder to overcome than any one thought. The much talked about vaccination pass port looks like becoming a reality, along with multi nationals not employing non vaccinated workers. Not getting vaccinated may make people feel independent, and in charge of the situation, but it will restrict them in so many ways. Life as we know it is changing fast, and no one can predict the ultimate outcome. Still, it's not all doom & gloom, it's an absolute glorious day here, and Trevor, our baby gecko is amusing himself [ her ? ] by eating the little ants intent on taking over the house. And trying to not be eaten by the large gecko who lives on the window sill.

Trev's a happy little soul, just content to live in gecko paradise , dreaming of the day he can take over the window sill from IVAN. IVAN, on the other hand, hasn't been the same since he sneaked a look at a show about crocodiles on the Daly River. He even did a death roll, when he caught a fly the other day. They had both better watch out for RED, the blue tongue lizard who lives under the house. When do you reckon we will be able to travel again, Des?

Probably because its killing a fair few people and the world needs to address this (yes and other ills too but this one is causing a few issues as it is).

It is here to stay but vaccines and common sense should see it at a low level and nowhere near as many people will die from it. Cheers

good answer but i ask, why is death something that needs to be addressed? death is a natural part of life (excuse the pun).
are we playing god?
are we altering evolution?
are we causing overpopulation?
are we making things worse for future generations?
