I don't see why the NSW Government says it is too hard to define who is an 'essential' worker.
Other states have done it and produced lists.
Surely NSW could just copy a list from another state. There's nothing special about Sydney.

In Sydney it is being left to individuals to decide if they are essential. It's not surprising people would say it's essential they go to work. No wonder it is being called a 'mock down'.

Maybe because they don't want to be sued by a lawnmowing company and have to deal with all the bad press and administrative overhead of dealing with those who would work around the rules. The tighter you define the rules the more likely it is that someone will find a loophole to exploit.

So what you are saying is, don't set hard and fast rules for lock down, in case we get sued? Or is it, keep the rules fast and loose, so the blame can't come back on us, just deflect all blame to the public. Why, they can't blame us if the public don't do as we suggest they should.? Responsible government ?

How else would you suggest that the information is extracted from the removalists - torture? Besides NSW removalists are actually inherently evil with a mission to subvert the state governments of NSW and QLD by bringing the covid Perhaps at the moment there is a top secret team of removalists travelling across the Nullabor to continue their evil spreading ways in an isolated unvaccinated tinderbox.
I wonder how many people have moved from NSW to Queensland in the last couple of weeks, after all moving house is an activity exempt from the restrictions. Best Qld check on all those footballers heading their way as well.

Perhaps the" health advice " is actually from big business , desperate to avoid closing their doors. Don't worry about the workers who have to travel by public transport thru the hot spot . [ Plenty more where they came from] Note the NSW government has never actually answered the question of what the health advice is. Just to follow it. The daily press conferences where the Premier and team stand there and lecture the public as though they are little children is really unedifying.

what is essential for you, or me or the govt is different. who do you write the list for?

the bottle shop is not essential for me, but for all the alcoholics out there, it is.


food is essential (coles/woolworths) but are cafes? coffee is essential to many people.

are plumbers essential? blocked toilet yes, dripping tap no.

why should the police need to be involved at all?

Hard and fast rules might work in the millitary, if the army wanted you to have a wife they would issue you one etc. There have been many cases where politicians have gone off half cocked threatening to imprison people for breaking covid rules only to find they have done nothing wrong, the limo driver in NSW being but one example. The more detailed that you write the rule book the more time it will consume and the greater the chance that you will find someone who will go out of their way to find a technicality to do what they wish to do anyway. Another case that comes to mind is the arts minister in the first NSW lockdown who resigned and was fined for living at his holiday home - until the court decided he had done nothing wrong.

Without financial support it could be claimed an essential worker is anyone struggling pay to pay who needs an income to put food on the table and pay the bills.

With no safety net this is a lot of people.
