We got my in-laws here from Scotland in June. That price wasn't too far from the mark per-seat. The only flights available were via Singapore and into Adelaide, so they did 14 days there before jumping across to Perth.

Getting them an affordable flight home again isn't as easy as you'd think either.

In other news, got my first jab today and it's the first time in 37 years I've stayed conscious for any form of needle. The nurse was very good, but I lay on the floor as a precaution (yes, I've passed out, fitted and jumped off the bed before. You wake up sore). It's nice when you can say "listen, this is what can and has happened in the past, do you mind if I lay on the floor" and they take you seriously.

Im not planning anything. But I reckon for the pocket change from $4.5 billion it wouldn’t be rocket science to build some magnificent quarantine facilities.

This was interesting- not the sole reason but a major one! People being reasonable was possibly the most important part- Well Done Vic- that's really Gold Standard[thumbsupbig]

The masks should have instructions on how to wear them, for the morons. Round these parts, abot 85% wear them correctly, 10% cover only the mouth and the remainder cover the chin. :bat:

I’m pro-quarantine facilities being built, pro Australia as part of the world, anti-gilded cage exclusivity. If that’s being blinded by my bias I’m happy with that. The alternative is very small minded.

Anyone who isn’t pro-quarantine facilities is part of the problem. Can’t do, is not a leadership position. It’s exclusive not inclusive. We need vision, not too hard basket apologists.

If priorities for spending $4.5 billion in public money were redirected away from private share holders, towards the public good, we could have a number of new facilities already built. Australians could have been coming home 6 months ago if we had some decent leadership in this country.

There are a number of state proposals on the table currently being blocked by fed gov.

There are also numerous sites across the country that could be repurposed.

This pandemic will not be over by next year. Australia is potentially going to need massive quarantine facilities for years to come, otherwise we will become even more globally provincial than we already are. The perpetual global circulation of covid variants has a long way to run yet. The gilded cage mentality is a neo-colonial fantasy.

Masks are to catch the droplets on the way out, not in.
