    Salt caverns in Australia

To my surprise, we do in fact have salt deposits that (presumably) oil could be stored in:

    Chandler Salt Mine

Currently planned to be used for gas and toxic waste, but would also work for oil.

Does anyone know where 'Blue Box' parts come from? I suspect China, but I really don't know for sure.

Nothing stamped on my Push Button Starter Switch or the carton whereas Lucas always stamped their parts with their name. But I suppose even a crowd like Lucas could buy in parts from their supplier, source unknown

We really are at the mercy of the Retailers because they probably tend to buy "After Market" to remain competitive & you don't know until it arrives.

Once it used to be Lucas made, but then Lucas seemed to get a stinking name for unreliability.

Parts come from all over the world. Country of origin is listing in their price lists. If you want to know anything specific, I could look it up.

Exactly. A modest outlay , compared to building masses of tanks, should ensure suitability for storage. It just didn't fit with the thoughts of the day. That may have changed now. Short term is the US salt mines, long term should be ours. Otherwise we can never be totally independent.

Local governments in some areas of NSW, and maybe some other states, used to have a system which allowed about a 15% margin for local suppliers, compared with imports, but I think that was scrapped when accountants were allowed to elevate cost-cutting above industry support and supply security. Maybe it should be revived.

For those who were worried about their Virgin Rewards points, I see Virgin Rewards, which is separately owned and not in administration, is owed $150 million in a loan to Virgin Australia, which it is trying to recoup.

Also notice that about 9000 Virgin Australia employees are owed $451 million in entitlements by the company.
I don't think the government should buy Virgin Australia, but I do think it should ensure the employees are looked after. Maybe it could buy the $451m in employee entitlements and require any purchaser of Virgin Australia to buy back the employee entitlements, to ensure the employees are looked after.

Virgin Australia owes almost $7 billion to more than 12,000 creditors who are meeting via video-link today

Thanks Red but not for the moment. It was just that one I fitted last Sept lasted 6 months & failed open. The new Blue Box is in & atm is operating fine but then so did the previous one. I wondered if the previous one had the balls of heavier contacts. One before that was a Lucas Genuine (??) & lasted aprox 12 years.

This one? Have to wait & see.

In my experience all of the aftermarket switches are really poor quality. You want to get the OEM ones. They are better but still nowhere near what they were 20 years ago.
