And a lot of the returnees aren't from Melbourne, it's just that Tullamarine is still open to international flights, whereas Adelaide, for example, hadn't had any international flights for months until the first week of June. And then they got three infections on one plane.

Just to make things explicitly clear for you, the infection rate for people arriving from India is 10%.

Most of the early cases, especially the NSW ones, came from the USA. The problem in Melbourne is not that overseas arrivals are coming in, but that quarantine has been badly managed - but after Ruby Princess, NSW has little reason to crow.

There is one thing missing from the politicians speeches and the media reporting. They are blaming every thing from family gatherings to 'super spreaders' for the spike in Covid cases.

The absent element is the overt transmission and the asymptomatic transmission of Covid from the '''Black Lives Matter' protest march. It's as if blaming the protestors is too politically sensitive to mention so conveniently they just ignore it. "Super Spreaders" for goodness sake........sheesh.

So, Bob10, you may get your wish - I suspect that lots of Victorians will in the future choose to holiday elsewhere - Fiji, for example, is cheaper and friendlier - but there are plenty of businesses in Qld and NSW that will suffer as a result. You may not realise the extent to which the tourism industry in Queensland is being propped up at the moment by JobKeeper, debt forbearance by the banks and direct loans from the Federal Government, but when that all starts to end from September onwards there will likely be a huge surge in insolvencies and bankruptcies.
And this , from September onwards , will not effect other States? How many Victorian businesses will go down the drain because of their recalcitrant few.? And yes , while Melbourne is in the spotlight, Country Victoria is squeaky clean. I'm not pointing the finger at the State, just the few who seem to think they are above the law, or above doing the right thing for the majority. I'm not suggesting this doesn't happen in other States, but tell me, why can NSW successfully test all that need to be tested, without the drama of Victoria? You can spin it any way you like, but Victorians are being presented to the World not in a very good light . And Qld closing its border , even with all the flak from the usual suspects, may turn out to be a master stroke. Australia is a big country, and Victoria is just one small part. I feel for those people in country VIC., having to endure this , through no fault of their own.

AS for the sudden change in border closure rules, I would rather have quick and messy, than slow and porous, with resultant outcomes. Yes, it will take time to iron out the faults, but better than doing nothing.

Here is the statutory declaration to fill in if you want to cross the border.

No, it's because none of the positives have been traced back to being infected at the Black Lives Matter protests - it didn't happen.

It must be a really scary situation. Here's a voice from inside the towers:

It was a shock to see police surround our tower blocks. But I'm happy Victoria is helping us at last

This whole pandemic has been a steep learning curve from start to finish. Mistakes have been made, but that was to be expected. What will be important is how lessons learned are used in the future , and you can bet on this happening again in the future. However you look at it, Australia has been fortunate that, by good luck or design, we are coming out of this better than a lot of countries around the world . We know it is not over yet by a long way until we get a vaccine, so we all need to work together to get the best outcome for every Australian. And put together whatever worked best here, to be a blueprint for future Pandemics. And what went wrong, to be used as a guide what not to do.

Those people must be very frightened. She makes a very good point, why haven't community leaders been involved in getting the message out? This is another example of how unprepared we have been to cope with a Pandemic. This has been a massive learning curve for everyone, let's hope lessons learned are saved for future reference.

This story questions the claim that conspiracy theories have deterred people from being tested.
But then it includes an example of an actual conspiracy theory text message claiming that masks have been contaminated with chemicals.
One thing it does confirm is the Premier saying anyone can be tested, even if they have no symptoms.
It must be a very confusing and frightening situation.
Meanwhile, in the USA, there were 53,000 positive tests in one day!
Trump's response was to rant quite a lot and order the creation of a statue park. I kid you not. Unvelievable!
