Following that particular line of logic then NSW should be having nearly 3x the amount of COV19 new cases/deaths and WA would be having a third of the amount of cases/deaths that are occurring in VIC at the moment.
This is CLEARLY NOT the case.
It is the Management/Miss Management of these imported COV19 cases that has caused the community transmissions in VIC NOT the source as is clearly shown by the figures from the other States that have also had these international arrivals to contend with.

SO face masks mandatory in Melbourne and some other areas.

I suppose they have to do anything that helps.

My way of thinking is that they will help stop transmission.But need to be replaced regularly,and disposed of properly.

Next thing will be "Bank Holdups on the increase in Melbourne". Sometimes you just can't win.


Seems to me they will all need a better Security Camera to ID imperfections in the image to be able to match them up with anybody 'cos it won't be the face anymore. Excuse? Just tell the cops "Danny said to wear one".[biggrin]

Anecdotal evidence out of the US appears to show they do help.

Two hairdressers were infectious and shedding before testing positive, yet every one of their clients that has been tested has shown negative after multiple tests, yet some of their immediate families have tested positive and had to isolate.

The thinking is that the hairdressers were careful to wear masks at all times while in the salon, but didn't at home.

Premier Daniel Andrews’ announcement that from 11.59pm on Wednesday, those not wearing masks or facial coverings will receive a $200 fine.

As a result, shops in Melbourne and Mitchell Shire have seen an influx of customers this afternoon rushing to buy the soon-to-be essential item.

On Twitter, people have described scenes of total chaos and wild queues as people “climb over each other” to buy either pre-made masks or the equipment needed to make their own.

“It is going NUTS here; car park full and queue of about 50 people waiting to get in!” one wrote, sharing a photo from a queue outside a Spotlight store.

“Lines up to 30 minutes at Spotlight in Springvale. Sewing machines almost gone. Everyone buying fabric to make their own masks after mandatory rules set for residents in Melbourne lockdown areas,” Herald Sun journalist Brooke Grebert-Craig wrote.

Any sort of face covering is a positive in Melbourne now. Muslims are virtuous.
