No we didn't because our take away shops, cafes and restaurants were closed, society generally came to a standstill - lock down was lock down not a lock down that allowed people out and about as if nothing was happening so long as food or tennis or work was involved as had been happening. Supermarkets and the small neighborhood convenience stores were the only avenue for food buying. Deliveries from them increased markedly (we still get our delivered after ordering online) and if you visited a supermarket, you queued up as only a certain number of customers allowed in at a time to enforce social distance. Petrol stations were open to anyone but if out on the road, you had to have a reason related to essential work or activity. Work was seriously curtailed. See COVID-19 pandemic in New Zealand - Wikipedia for our alert level limits.

Looking at it from the perspective of having seen the effectiveness of a Level 4 NZ lock down, the Stage 3 lock down for so long as numbers were increasing so fast was puzzling. All the best with Stage 4 - hope to see numbers reduced over time. Two weeks from now will be telling....

Our level 4 lock down was recently challenged in the courts. I believe a verdict is reserved. It'll be no end of trouble for Lock Down 2.0 if we need to go there, if this case wins its argument in court.

If you live outside of metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire you should wear a face covering when you leave home if it is difficult to keep 1.5 metres apart from others.

    • Wearing a face covering protects you and your community by providing an additional physical barrier to coronavirus (COVID-19).
    • Keeping 1.5 metres between yourself and others and washing your hands are still the best defences against coronavirus (COVID-19).
    • The recommendation to wear a face covering does not apply to children and people aged under 12 years, individuals with breathing difficulties, and those who have physical conditions that make it difficult to wear a face covering.
    • Outside of metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire there will be no enforcement on the use of face coverings. You will not be fined if you don’t wear one.
    • You must wear a face covering if you need to go to metropolitan Melbourne or Mitchell Shire for one of the four reasons: shopping for food and supplies, recreation or exercise, medical care and caregiving, and study or work.

In NZ N0, NILL, ZERO, NADA community transmissions of COV19 in the entire country for the last 93 days so anyone challenging the Very Effective lockdown in court should be charged with contempt and not given the time of day.

I see images on TV of ppl wearing masks but some only cover their mouth leaving the nose exposed. Dont they realise that the virus could travel up their nostrils. lack of education of mask usage out there.

Main danger is infected people will breath out the virus through their uncovered noses, infecting others.
Don't buy masks with valves either, as they still let the virus escape. Valves are unnecessary.

The virus will also enter by the eyes.

A minor modification that I think makes it a more accurate observation with regards to the general population unfortunately.

The masks / face coverings we (the general public) are being asked to wear are to protect "you from me". The N95s (with or without the valve) are to protect "me from you".

The general masks are to significantly reduce or coalesce the droplets and reduce the aerosol output. The N95s are to *prevent* aerosol input. The medical teams wearing the N95s are also wearing eye protection.

Not upset at all - but I think you are, given you want to charge with contempt and not give the time of day to anyone challenging in Court the Very Effective lockdown prococess.

Due process and rule of law doesn't seem to appeal to you where you do not agree.

Oh no anti mask rallies here - masks are not required.
