Not quite - there were two strains from the start, no discernible difference between the two of them as far as I am aware.

I'd expect that the vaccine will pick up both strains in the way that the flu vaccine actually covers a couple of different strains:

Nope, definitely too late for me now, I've been retired for 20 yrs, been through this stuff before,..in week's time, the loss that I would have to accept would be unacceptable,..got shares too,...just gonna hang in there,...like I've done a few times before, including Keating's "Recession That We Had To Have", where shares dropped 50%+. So, my route is set.

To fight COVID-19, curb the spread of germs-- and rumours. This is from the USA, but could apply anywhere.

The community spread of rumors about Covid-19 is, of course, very different than the community spread of Covid-19 itself. But the structural impact is similar. Just as frontline health care workers can handle a normal influx of patients, public officials and journalists and educators can handle a normal influx of rumors and conspiracy theories. Problems arise when there’s a sudden flurry of polluted information, particularly when it spreads privately and can’t be searched for or monitored. It can be impossible to know where or when the debunking should even begin. It can be just as tricky to know whether those debunks will be effective, especially if you’re speaking on behalf of an institution that people mistrust.

This dynamic poses unique risks to those on the informational frontlines, whether they’re university professors or health care professionals. When you’re standing in front of a classroom full of panicking students, and you can’t reassure them because you don’t have any answers yourself, that panic can be contagious. Maybe not a panic over Covid-19, but over how to contain the informational threat.That’s where public health and public discourse fuse.


Polluted information is a mental health issue;

not knowing what’s really happening or whom to trust creates an enormous cognitive burden. “The coronavirus is too stressful,” one of my students said near the end of our discussion. “Can we go back to talking about the election?” He was joking—honestly it’s one of the best 2020 jokes I’ve heard—but his point was well taken: Covid-19 is far from the only global crisis that we face. The relentlessly chaotic, infuriating, mind-melting backdrop of the present moment makes it stressful just to wake up in the morning.

And guess what happens when we’re that stressed out?

Dear Gavin,
The Clean Energy Council has been constantly monitoring the evolving situation in relation to the impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). As a result of the latest developments and advice, the Clean Energy Council has determined to postpone all of the scheduled events in March and April 2020.
We understand the effect the COVID-19 situation is having on many of our members, installers and stakeholders, especially in relation to meetings and events. We have not taken this decision lightly and wanted to provide as much notice as possible of any changes to our events program.
Upcoming events that will now be postponed are:

CEO Forum - 25 March 2020
Parliamentary Reception - 25 March 2020
Perth Installer Night - 25 March 2020
Wind Industry Forum - 31 March 2020

The media is reporting we should have at least 2 weeks supply of food, beer is one of my main meals.
If I’m on holiday it is my main meal and require at least a carton every 2 days
2 weeks = 7 boxes + 3 spares (in case any mates come around) = 10 boxes.
Probably a good idea to add a couple for dessert (or good luck)

Our super is already in a conservative fund, so I'll leave it there.

I read that 32% of workers are casual and so don't have sick leave.
The government has waived the waiting week for them to apply for Newstart, but there is still a week of processing time, so they are unlikely to get a payment until the end of their two week quarantine. The $750 payment to Newstart people will be swallowed in food and rent, so it won't last long and then they will be back in poverty.

Most people who get the virus only display mild symptoms, similar to but not identical to the flu. I predict many casuals will put making a living first, take cold and flu tablets to suppress the symptoms and go to work anyway.


Mind you, only 10% of promised government bushfire support funds have actually been distributed and many people who lost everything up to 5 months ago have received nothing so far, so I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for Newstart, which hasn't been increased in 20 years and everyone on it is officially living in poverty anyway.

Three quarters of the Coronavirus package funding is going to business, and thats good for apprentices, and the investment write offs might be good for car dealers as bosses buy themselves new wheels, but I can't imagine too many restaurant owners deciding now is the time for a new kitchen when the economic outlook is so poor.

So as as the economy stalls a second round is likely in the May budget.
