Isn't it the general restriction of travel that has done the trick rather than just travel across borders?

I would have though that if I was infected, that I would create exactly the same risk to others by driving five or six hundred kilometres from the South Coast to New England as driving a slightly shorter distance to East Gippsland.

Perhaps they mean that the closed border have helped in exactly the same way that regional travel restrictions have helped.
The danger is of an infected person spreading the virus to places which previously had no known cases.
We know most cases are in NSW and Victoria. NSW is reopening anyway, riskng a second wave of infections.
Dan Andrews in Victoria has told people to expect to have to work from home at least until the end of June, to try to limit community transmission.
Why should other states and territories irresponsibly risk receiving infections from NSW and Victoria? Better to wait until the second wave has passed.

I think I agree with all that, but surely it is just as legitimate to ask why the South Coast of NSW should have to risk irresponsible Sydney people bringing the infection down our way.

Maybe the Qld government should re-open St Helena Island for NSW and Vic tourists?

What those areas in Queensland that have no cases like Blackwater? Open the borders and continue to manage the outbreaks as they occur. Oddly enough the Virus doesn't seem to understand the concept of state boundaries and Queensland shouldn't be so smug when one of their own allegedly drives 200KM after working while infected. The Qld premier has been doing the holier than thou act a little too much.

There was some discussion a while back about if governments should intervene to save Virgin Australia. Our government said no way.
Germany thinks differently. Here's how the German government is intervening to save Lufthansa, as part of a package to save jobs in German companies.

Incidentally, France is also intervening to re-direct French car companies, with the aim of France becoming the European leader in electric vehicles.

What second wave?It isn't going to happen.

The virus will always pop up somewhere,it will never be gone completely.Same as all viruses.

But i doubt there will be a 'second wave',particularly if we keep going the way we are, slowly getting back to normal.

Second wave may be happening right now, just waiting for the testing.

One minor difference - Lufthansa is a German company, and is the country's flagship airline.

Virgin Australia is a Chinese and Singapore owned airline with minor Australian shareholding, and is not Australia's flagship airline. It makes a difference.

All this discussion on border closures between states... to an outsider looking in appears odd but begs the question... is the health system in Australia state or federal?

Border closures were often justified here in NZ to prevent our health system being overwhelmed if the virus got a foothold.
