Why? Are they all returning Aussies? If not, what sort of legitimate reason could possibly be put forward for needing entry to this country or the Shakey Isles, for that matter and sorry, 'Compassionate Grounds' don't cut it with me in the present climate.

It's not that long ago that if a funeral was more than a couple of hundred kays away, a nice letter or card did the trick.

Nor me. If they were out of the country then stiff ****. The Cookie sometimes crumbles that way. Unfortunate, but we have an unfinished Pandemic going on in this country. Change your plans. Just imagine WW2 when people were killed, they couldn't hop on an A380 & fly to Berlin to say ooroo to their loved one and a member of a shot down Lancaster crew. Nope, if they were lucky they got a a Telegram.

Not all travelers are returning for funerals.

Not so long ago it took a long time to get anywhere and was expensive. Pre-pandemic it was cheap and quick to most places and the convenience factor was high.

The pandemic has seen this all changed arse-about-face in a very short space of time.

Not sure what it costs to travel these days (can't be as cheap as it was). Flight numbers are diminished and it will be taking longer to get places via new routes and stop-overs.

The pre-pandemic convenience factor has all but disappeared. The new reality will take some time to ripple through people consciousness I guess. The world has basically changed in a very short period of time. It is like a global game of musical chairs. The music stopped a few months ago but the inertia of peoples lifestyles saw them caught out still running around the world and in the silence... this is them all trying to find a chair... that is the process we are seeing now I think... the scramble for a chair... to get back home.

I talked to my brother in Houston today. He told me his sister in law is planning on a knee replacement next week, and saw the surgeon for a pre-op yesterday. She told him that she planned on spending two nights in hospital after the operation, and then transferring to a convalescent nursing home for a couple of weeks. He told her that as a doctor this was the recommended procedure, but as a friend, he was telling her to stay only one night in hospital if at all possible and definitely do not go into the nursing home - "you won't come out alive". With 395 new cases in the Houston area yesterday (total over 18,000), rising rapidly, he expects the medical facilities to be overwhelmed within a couple of weeks. The Texas Governor is telling everyone that it is all over and is opening everything up.

I think she should be reconsidering having the op at all under the current circumstances. Defer and delay.

Best I can do at the moment. For Aus.

Around 6500 citizens and residents are returning home each week.

I'm guessing most all have been living OS but home is looking much more attractive now.

The NSW Health website has detailed data for each day, week, etc, including breakdowns by local and OS infections, whether traced/known infection or not, local government or health district, etc

Im guessing the other states Health Department's would have similar.

Texas and Florida are getting over 3000 new cases a day now, California will overtake New Jersey as the state with the second highest number of cases in the next few days, Alabama and Arizona not good and N & S Carolina not good as well.

A month ago the 'modelling' for new US cases and deaths was down to zip by Aug 1. It isn't now.
