Now for some serious discussion. As Wuhan parties, and Europeans rush back from holidays, Australia faces some hard coronavirus truths.

A Four Corners investigation revealed Wilson Security, which provided hundreds of guards to work in quarantine hotels, requested a subcontractor backdate documents within hours of the state government announcing an inquiry into hotel quarantine.
In an email to the subcontractor, which was obtained by 7.30, Wilson Security asked the subcontractor to backdate an acknowledgment that it was aware of its obligations of training and infection control.

Gavin Silbert, Victoria’s former chief crown prosecutor who reviewed the correspondence, told 7.30 that on July 2 Wilson requested the subcontractor sign an acknowledgment to suggest it was aware of its obligations that were being subcontracted to them as at April 30.

“The subcontractor refused to sign such an undertaking and in an email to Wilson said that they could not sign it because they were simply not aware of the obligations and the conditions that they were bound by as at the 30th of April, and that they couldn’t backdate from the 2nd of July,” Mr Silbert told 7.30.

He said the email indicated a cover-up attempt by Wilson Security.

Hmm, let's see, Brissy 1/2hr away by air, Sydney several....

What do you reckon? Corona Virus

After this is over it might be time to start discussing whether a Federation of states is still a logical basis of government in a modern world.

Eliminating a middle tier of government duplication, ridiculous rule differences, etc may be a really good thing.

I'm told by someone who knows, but can't talk, that two of the Sydney funeral cluster were a couple from Byron who came back, got sick, were in hospital at Lismore and are now in home iso recovering.

Some Tweed cases have been sent to Lismore in the past, although not currently, I think.

Qld health would know that, so that would be why that area was left outside the border zone.
They was also a fly in to Ballina from Melbourne, who ended up in Lismore Base.
All three cases are well over two weeks ago now.
As far as I know there's been no community transmissions here for months and months, and all the cases that were here we're fly in/returning travelers?

Queensland records no new cases, 29 days without community transmissions. Even better news baby Hervey will be going home tomorrow. The Qld Premier is planning ahead. hoping for the best, preparing for the worst.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the State Government was preparing a "shield against coronavirus" by stockpiling more than 120 million pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE), despite recording another day of no new COVID-19 cases.
    Key points:

    • Queensland is approaching 30 days without community transmission
    • The state has so far stockpiled $11 million worth of personal protective equipment
    • The Premier wants to begin manufacturing personal protective equipment in Queensland

The state has reached 29 days without community transmission of coronavirus, leaving just seven active cases.
"We are doing absolutely everything we need to do in case we do have a COVID outbreak," Ms Palaszczuk said.
She said there were plans to double a 900,000 square metre warehouse space dedicated to storing PPE.
"We have 900 days' worth of surgical masks, 200 days' worth of medical gowns, 300 days' worth of gloves permanently on hand and that's stage one," she said.
Ms Palaszczuk said stage two would see PPE manufactured in Queensland.
"Of course some of the equipment comes from places overseas, but I want to see Queensland have the capacity to also produce some of the equipment here," she said.

Good news for Victoria, cases are trending down. Let's hope the nightmare will soon be over.

    Overall trend coming down: Sutton

"The trend continues down, pretty much as we expected although we have seen in previous weeks an uptick on a Wednesday," said Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton.

"That might relate to when people get tested and when test results come through. We shouldn't hang everything on a single day's result but overall the trend is good."

"We have also seen that the number of active cases in aged care is trending down."

"The number of overall active cases is coming down by the hundreds each day but it is still a pretty big number, 7,274 active cases still in Victoria."

"I do expect that to decrease by a couple of hundred every day for the rest of this week and more next week. I would hope that we are in the hundreds, not in the 200s, next week but it all depends on everyone doing the right thing, including stepping up for testing."

Interesting that the four corners show didn’t mention that the issues with aged care are because they have slashed federal funding for aged care - that transmissions are essentially their fault because they haven’t supported aged care adequately. But its all Dan’s fault really because he’s Labour and the Feds are libs.

I find the liberal party to be totally inhuman in this space. You only matter as much as you contribute to the economic bottom line. Other that that, in their view you have have little or no intrinsic value.

It’s really disturbing that the Murdoch media is so focused on crushing the Labour Party, rather than reporting factually on the issue.

That being the case, I understand and support the decision. Whilst sympathising with the parents and appreciating this is an important time for the mother and babe to bond, it cannot take precedence over other peoples' lives.
If as you say Rick, there are no cases in the Lismore district, it's a tragic case of unyielding bureaucracy at work.
The RBWH has made special arrangements for the parents where they will be quarantined, within the hospital.
I think the med people here are using it to highlight this is affecting scores and possibly hundreds of people's health outcomes.

The same problem will be happening on the NSW/Vic border too, just like all the ACT workers trying to return home.
Bureaucracies are the same all over.

I think what we must remember, no one was prepared for this. It was, dare I say, unprecedented. Considering everything, Australia has still done reasonably well. I'm not looking forward to the wash up after this. It will be ugly.

All media is biased to a degree. I find (and it’s fine for you to disagree) that the ABC has the least biased media in Australia. However, there are programs on the ABC that are biased towards both extremes.

I’m left wing though and value people for their intrinsic value. So I appreciate that the ABC holds similar values. I do not like the right leaning mainstream media from any of the paid stations - particularly sky. As they are generally after headlines, promote division and are bigoted and racist in their approach to all issues. But that’s just my personal opinion....
