Has already happened and was not exactly a success. They did not use the proposed twin otter but some single engine float plane. The aircraft could not take off from the water in Rose Bay as it was too rough and took off from land at Bankstown. Landed on the west basin of Lake Burely Griffin not the suggested Central Basin and if they use the west basin they will have opposition from the Rowing Clubs and the AIS who have rowing courses laid out in the West Basin. That area is the same distance from the CBD as the airport is and as this service will have to use the same security standards, then why not land at the airport (as the last daily flight of sea plane will). Also there is no public transport infrastructure in the west basin but arguable the airport is not much better.

The plus that did surprise me, is the National Capital Authority is supportive as they normally say No to everything.

Other than the novelty factor I cannot really see any advantage over normal domestic flights. For business people - sit in a nice 1st class section of a 737 from Mascot to Canberra or a longer flight in a cramped, noisy and shaking Twin Otter - I know where they will go.

No but it was good enough to act as a conduit from Sydney to Qld, and deliver COVID .

At present it looks like there is not a border open to NSW anywhere.

Sort of.....It'll be interesting to see if there are any border checkpoints tomorrow morning. Might be a good excuse to turn around and go home for a day off.......
