My interpretation is it would appear that some 15 months after the PCR test was approved, more accurate (or faster, or cheaper, or whatever) tests have been developed and it’s time to consider “upgrading”. This **** is still moving quickly and both the testing and treatment will continue to evolve.

It means they are updating the target to include influenza. This is what they call a multiplex test kit. Very common to have multiplex respiratory virus (RV) kits. They may also have refined the targets for CV-19 as it is mutating or to give it better specificity. This test kit isn't used in Australia as far as I know. It is likely in the future that the CV-19 will join the standard multiplex RV kits as it becomes part of the RV suite and people are immunised or build immunity.

It is hard to believe the numbers today since NSW got this virus, there is 2397 with it and 11 death and another 4 weeks lock down. All started down in Bondi I think. All of you guys up there take care. Heather

Their main issue now is that their pathology is so far behind that test results are taking 7-10 days to come back. So daily positive counts are actually on tests done up to 10 DAYS ago! I think that is why their % infectious in the community rate is so high....
