Yes and is not unexpected - we have had a good 13 month run but has come to an end. We will go into lockdown at 5 today for 7 days.

There was a waste water detection yesterday then last night a young guy tested positive. The authorities have not determined how infection occurred but if I had to have a bet he has travelled somewhere he should not have. I am amazed how much ground he covered in such a short time in the lead up to detection.

I had to go to the shops the get some scripts filled this morning and went to the big shopping center in Woden but it was traffic log jam and I could not get within 500m in the car. Went to my local shops and the same so I parked illegally as there were no parks anywhere. Got into the shops, and looking in people's trolleys - yep packed full with poo tickets. I suggested to the guy in the Reject Shop that he should change the $6 price for a big packet of rolls to $12 as he would make a killing, but he said he would like too but couldn't.

Did I really expect any different - nope.

The way I see it is there is not much point knocking the door down if no one is staying at home.

Too many (business) doors already open that need shutting.

People queuing for hours to be tested and vaccinated.

FYI, these people are my neighbours and the people my kids go to school with and play sport with.

Great, better late than never. It was still the case before someone took any notice & acted though.

According to experts, vaccine selfies, or 'vaxxies', really can make a difference.
Dr Katie Attwell, an expert in vaccination uptake from the University of Western Australia, says social media can help normalise getting the jab in a personal, real-world setting.
"Even if people are posting things like, 'l felt shoddy the next day, I don't feel good,' even that is positive, because they're still saying they're glad they've done it.

NZ shut us out sensibly and a blunt but true comment kicked NSW fair and square

Yeah but J1, due to their "Normal" lifestyle they may have felt crap/shoddy even without a Vax but simply seized the opportunity to mouth off to stay in their social media mould.

Can't be seen to be a softie you know.

I can hear what you mean Des. Fox news US style reporting on Canberra shut down is entertaining plus. Apparently lock down is due to our gun laws

Lots of a very few American people not coming to Australia as we are dickheads "NoPooh4Me2Day" said so! It must be true then right ?

Got a great chuckle looking at the alternate views myself No way I would feed the fish and comment in that shark pit.

But, to be a realist............ Did they mention a %?

I don't mind anyway, especially if they are like Orange man or his ilk.

EDIT. I see Aussie 005 seems to agree with me.

I reckon they might find someone from Sydney travelled to Canberra and spread the virus. Federal parliament has been sitting this week so I wonder if that is the connection.

Various people keep saying we can relax when we hit the vaxing targets, but when will that be? The graph below gives some hints, based on current rates.
My reading of it is, don't hold your breath.
Remember the National Cabinet agreement is the nation as a whole has to hit the target before any state can say it has also reached the target and can start relaxing.
That means the whole country is hostage to the progress in the slowest state, I think.

And to put it in perspective - Walgett Shire, now a hotspot, where the population is 40% aboriginal (Group 1b vaccination priority), and has among the lowest vaccination rates in the country. Today it has no vaccination appointments available, the closest is Moree, over 200km away, where there is one appointment available in 21 days time.

Actually, holding one's breath may be the best way out of this mess. Now, how long for, is the next question.
