An interesting change to the NZ vaccine response just dropped this morning. We had been told to expect a change and it has come. We only have the option of the Pfizer jab here. To speed up the vaccine roll-out to get at least one jab into people faster than planned, the gap between jabs is being extended from three weeks to six weeks.
Those who have already have had their first and were already scheduled for their second can chose to keep their existing appointment for their second or to reschedule for a longer duration between them.
Covid 19 coronavirus: Wait between vaccines doubles to six weeks - NZ Herald
Our Director General of Health implemented this move and gave some benefits to doing so as being a faster initial roll-out of jab 1 thus a greater proportion of the population with some small level of protection, and he also indicated research had shown a bigger gap between them led to a stronger and longer protection... I would agree on the first point but will go look for the literature he indicated as his second point about the increased protection. I am one of those who have had their first jab and already have a scheduled time for my second. Do I keep my scheduled second shot or extend...
Seems the govt here is preparing us for the inevitable arrival of delta as there has been a series of news articles lately about how they will respond - sharp severe lockdown with a warning for us to be ready for it as little warning will be given; and what they have learned from NSW - don't hesitate or mess about, just shut it down if it is not absolutely needed. Our health system was already fragile pre-covid. We managed to fend of the first wuhan and earler variants but delta has them skittish in Wellington for good reason.

Covid 19 coronavirus: Delta in NZ community would '''risk collapsing or compromising our health system''' - NZ Herald
WA went into a hard lockdown from 29/03/20 to 28/04/20 and eliminated any community transmissions in the State.
Why didn't the NSW government follow that lead when this Delta strain FIRST appeared this year?
Even at this moment the innifectual lockdown provisions in NSW are still allowing this virus to escape and infect other areas/States due to the various loopholes in its sieve like lockdown rules.
IF what you are saying that "Bob, I said the Qld saw straight up what didn't work in NSW and so did an instant lockdown.is correct then why on earth is the NSW government STILL faffing about relying on vaccination percentages (Which is months away) to end this instead of doing its best to contain the spread in the meantime.
IF even dumb old QLD can see that a Hard lockdown is the BEST way to contain this outbreak Why on earth can't the "Golden" State see that![]()

This C19 business seems to be overflowing with anomalies from here there & everywhere & it seems impossible that we will ever see clear air again. But we will, as soon as folk understand what is expected of them & carry it through. Too many shirkers, liars, lack of accepting accountability for it to happen immediately. (I hope you're right Mr bee.)

Selfies vs health campaigns
According to experts, vaccine selfies, or 'vaxxies', really can make a difference.
Dr Katie Attwell, an expert in vaccination uptake from the University of Western Australia, says social media can help normalise getting the jab in a personal, real-world setting.
"Even if people are posting things like, 'l felt shoddy the next day, I don't feel good,' even that is positive, because they're still saying they're glad they've done it.
NZ shut us out sensibly and a blunt but true comment kicked NSW fair and square![]()
