I remember this ad capturing my imagination.
I have always had a soft spot for Mitsubishi 4wds just from seeing them in action. Then toured with a mate in an MN Triton in standard form apart from very mild AT tyres up at Cape York and the Old Tele Track and in 2 of the most gnarely spots on the OTT the D2 could climb them but his could not- but mine was lifted, bigger tyres and 4.6 litres of grunt. But it was deeply impressive and on the corrugations it was a weapon. Sold me on them and I bought a new version. Very very reliable rigs and different enough to every other Japanese/Thai built ute to have character and keep things interesting. Won't give up my D2 but do really like the Mitsubishi and for me a diesel canopied ute with higher roof rating, load capacity (size and weight) and very easy and safe to drive for my wife (it really eats up the miles with a mild lift and good quality EFS XTM suspension) even heavily laden was a no brainer. Great to see you had a blast in that lovely D2 of yours. The D2 really is the modern classic of Land Rover in my view. Just the right blend of all factors.
Cheers

Oh my I remember that ad!!! Haha
I like the Mitsubishi too. That pajero went everywhere haha. Then it was owned by a school friends family and now I don't know where it is but always loved it
Helen's brother, his wife and young kiddies did the Cape in 85/86, in a Paj. in the company of a couple of Tojos and a Nissan and it was the only vehicle to come through the trip, from Brissie and back, without any issues.
In the early 00s I had a 2.8 T/Diesel, dual cab Triton as a work ute for several years and never had a problem with it. It did drink like a sailor, though.

I'd recommend one of these.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
