Now what was this thread all about?

OK,just finished painting the sections of the garage that were well overdue for a paint, and SWMBO is sorting out about 250 books, many are going to the second hand book shop.
Good on your family for rescuing the foal, I haven't had to save a horse but I have returned 2 lost dogs, and a rabbit and a dead racing pigeon to their owners, also took a koala hit by an oncoming car, (which flashed my lights at as a warning that it was on the road) to the RSPCA, they said it made it, but I have my doubts as my brother said it felt cold by the time we got it to Wacol about 1h45 later, one that didn't make it was a sick Rosella parrot that I found in my front garden one morning that had to be euthanised by the RSPCA. I also coaxed a feral cat out of the wild which I have to this day.

Pray tell us more about the whale skull.

Mmmm, nah. Every time my sister starts a conversation with "Do you remember when....", my brain instinctively goes into Nope, nope, nope it didn't happen, mode.

I often think that "Do you remember when....?" is a good gateway to the past & something we should try to retain for as long as we can. Unless it is too embarrassing to the asker then I suppose they wouldn't have brought it up..

Actually Paul, it's totally on topic, not being Corona related.

So we see a dead whale washed up,fresh, right at top of island Eastern side. One of many we had seen over the years.Anyway, the skull of this one was wanted by the Qld museum.Dont ask me why i can't remember.Whale type, dunno either. From memory its about 30ft long.
So the old man takes bearings and mileage from the nearest creek,or something,no maps in those days, only ariel photographs. So we go back 6 months later, hard going, winch, dig, winch, dig, eventually get there, can't find it,beach has completely changed,it was buried somewhere. So we camp for the night, then hard going again, back to the main camp,at Coomboo lake.

Quite a few years later, they found it,i wasn't up there at the time, and they brought it back.I remember it was in our driveway,in the trailer, and it still stank like you wouldn't believe.Anyway, the museum has it,probably hidden away somewhere.

It was also the first time the company had purpose built 4WD trailers with LR wheels, but they were bloody heavy, and the S3 LWB struggled to pull them in the soft sand.Even the LWB with no trailer wasn't the best, the SWB were so much better.

As there were hardly any people up there is those days,we came across all sorts of things washed up.

I wonder if people in those days knew about letting tyres down? Or were reluctant to do so because no portable compressors?

I'm now very careful saying "Do you remember when?"
SWMBO & I were reminiscing one night while having a few wines when I asked if she recalled a certain trip?
Apparently I took that trip with another girl!
A-hum, girlfriend before SWMBO. 40 years later, it would seem, there is still some jealousy there.
Be very frightened!! You will pay!
