Hahaha what did they replace the leopard tanks with?

    From Wikiwottsit[QUOTE][QUOTE]
    American M1A1 Abrams tanks

After an internal debate on whether the Army should continue to operate tanks as part of its force structure, the Australian Government replaced the Leopards with a small fleet of American M1A1 Abrams tanks in 2007, which are now the Army's only tanks.

    Wouldn't we all?

They train just out of town.
They park them up and occasionally let the public have a bit of a look around.

Even seen one very bogged! And the recovery truck with doubly impressive to watch!

I have seen a trainload of them en route. Impressive. Or maybe it was the Leopards then??? A tank is a Tank & theoretically I shouldn't have seen them at all, being Cammoed.

Worthy of a thread of its own, but I don't know where it should be posted:

M1A1/2 Abrams main battle tank is manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS). The first M1 tank was produced in 1978, the M1A1 in 1985 and the M1A2 in 1986.

M1A1/2 Abrams third-generation main battle tank from GDLS (army-technology.com)

In March 2004, the Australian Army announced the purchase of 59 US Army M1A1 tanks to enter service from 2007. The contract was signed in November 2005 and the first five were handed over in February 2006 at GDLS in Lima, Ohio.

The first 18 tanks were delivered to the Australian Army at the School of Armour in Victoria in September 2006. The remaining 41, to be based in Darwin, were delivered in March 2007.

    Propulsion

The M1 is equipped with a Honeywell AGT 1500 gas turbine engine. The Allison X-1100-3B transmission provides four forward and two reverse gears.

Oh I have nothing against Ford, in fact I have fond memories of the back seat of a Customline, and the front seat, with that throbbing V8, that big beast would handle the gravel roads of Far North West Tassie with consummate ease.

why I said “sigh” was because it was Nanna’s car, with air freshener ,soft cushions , soft rugs and has to be vacuumed and washed before, during and after every outing,🥰🥰
