Correct - the traction control does not need the CDL engaged to work. But with CDL engaged this will help where you have different grip levels between front and rear.
Next time you get to try that sort of obstacle again - try with and without CDL engaged so you familiarise yourself with the difference.
The negative of traction control is it can kill momentum.
…just try not to break it. But if you do - we all expect photos (or videos).
a It is either a bulb.
b Switch, on the box. (Faulty or crappy contacts. (If it has spade terminals something has slipped off)
c Optng cable needs adjusting & inspecting.
d fault in the power cable (Open circuited)
e. Really sounds like a trip to Ad. Hills Auto for a proper analysis. Again.
Was it ok during your "Desert" travels recently? If so, I would be looking at (b) & go from there.

The light went out early last year randomly, one time doing in muddy paddock at home. I'm not sure if cdl engaged correctly on my trip or not as a few obstacles it seemed like back wheels weren't pushing like I'd expected them to when front in air, but I can't remember what it used to feel like
