    NDIS hopes and disappointments

I applied for the NDIS in November and was approved in December, we waited for the funding meeting for my care plan and the happened in February. During that meeting it was determined what my goals to achieve were.
We waited patiently and on March the 17 we got the news that a heap of funding has been approved. It made me happy that some quality to life was going to be achieved. Now I have a plan co ordinator and a plan manager to get the services happening.
Then I today I get an email saying the home modifications involving a suitable bathroom /toilet and and safe access for me to the home is a lengthy process and can take from 9 months to 3 years to complete.
NDIS registered builders and quotes etc etc.

This put a damper on things again , as I am showering out of a bucket at the moment, I turned to Heather and said I probably wont be around to see the end result and use it. She replied that's what she was thinking but she didn't want to say it. The virus isn't helping with this either.
Good news is I'm getting a hire wheel chair with power soon until I get my own and possibly an electric lift chair to sit on.
I have another NDIS meeting next March to check that my goals are being achieved and to make sure that I have done my part to achieving them, bit hard I think considering.

    I feel your pain.
3 of our kids are high needs. We have never worried to much about it & just taken care of things as best we could ourselves, counciling, trips to specialist, dietitions & so on.
Then, about 4 years ago we were told NDIS would step in & fund all the extra stuff for the kids.
2 years later NDIS finally had the kids assessed, then nothing for 12 months, finally SWMBO chucked a wobbly only to discover the assessments had been "Mis Placed".
So a further wait until they were re done about 12 months ago. Monday this week we finally had a phone confrence for 2 of the kids who should have everything signed off in a week or 2.
We are still not amused as the highest needs boy has to have more assessments! He is Autistic & has a lot of problems with social contact & is basically terrified of the outside world. The other 2 can function, with help, quite well, so the 2 that could have waited have NDIS, the one that really needs it doesn't.
    Makes sense.

I'm grateful that things will eventually happen, but they build up they give you with hope when you are just about to give up and every day starts to become a struggle, they come out to access you and access you and comment they are appalled at the lack of services and assistance you have. They see your body physically struggling in everyday simple things that able body people can take for granted and your mental health is suffering. Then having to wait again as you further deteriorate for the gears to begin motion. Realistically my clock is ticking, so I hope I will be able to utilise some of things sooner.

I think it is appalling Mario, the NDIS has seemingly become the pinnacle of bureaucracy..... and a bureaucracy cannot serve, only obfuscate.

Be a squeaky wheel Mario. Radio chat, Ministers and staff. I find being nice point out the utter stupidly works best. Yelling seems to justify guilty or responsible people hiding or ignoring issues in plain sight.

Ringing is better than emailing as it is very easy for people to claim your email got lost in all the spam.

    Members of the Board are:

    • Dr Helen Nugent AO (Chairman)
    • Ms Sandra Birkensleigh
    • Professor Jane Burns
    • Mr Glenn Keys AO
    • Ms Robyn Kruk AO
    • Mr John Langoulant AO
    • Dr Martin Laverty
    • Mr Jim Minto
    • Mr Paul O'Sullivan
    • Ms Estelle Pearson
    • Mr John Walsh AM

I suggest you start with Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services seems to be Robert Stuart

The people answering the phone at MP Roberts Stuart are often your best mates. If you can make that a fact. I'd bet you get a resolution.

I have been screaming politely over "ring your Doctor for an early Flu Vaccination" by health ministers RACGP and others. That gives all Doctors about 500+ extra phone calls each days where we have to explain we are out of the vaccines yet again. The same Heath Dept people who tell every one to ring us, hijacked our private supplies of flu vaccines two weeks ago. The Government supply chain was overwhelmed ( as it is every year) Your GP and I pre ordered ours 6 months ago. My own very squeaky wheel has a delivery for Monday. I wasn't rude. I did include a nice media person in all emails to add to the reason help might be a good idea.

Good luck getting a reasonable result mate. Its worth pushing for it.

As my wife said to me Mario, the squeaky wheel gets the oil! She used to be an L.A.C and plan builder for the NDIS.
Is your LAC any good? Some were shocking and didnt give a damn, some will bend over backwards for you. How long did it take from your 1st consultation with the LAC until you got your plan results?? This should generally take about a week or so.
Keep at them, your LAC should be pushing to get these modifications done asap for you, if not, see if you can snoop around and find someone in their office that gets **** done!
    Good luck.

Mario won't have an LAC if he has Support Coordination as part of his plan.

True, not familiar with his situation, only going off this thread. If he has a support coordinator, keep hassling them, if they are not doing much, you can get another coordinator. They do have the power to rush thing through though if needed.

My support co ordinator ( who is also a participant on the NDIS) and is a local ,rang me on Friday and said a lot is happening behind the scenes that I don't know about, she gave me a list of Plan managers to choose from, they pay the bills to the providers so I have organised my choice, and have been contacted by some of he service providers already on friday arvo, the support co ordinator said her roll has to kick ass on my behalf so let here do her job kicking on my behalf, she said she takes no prisoners.

so having her on board makes me feel a bit better.
