The reason I ask is that Telecom seem to have generally used Dodges, whereas DCA seem to have used Inters exclusively. I've been trying for some time to match the DCA yellow paint (which is different from the Telecom yellow) so if you come across some yellow paint in good condition somewhere on your van please let me know!

Hi, I worked for DCA. I think the FJ Cruiser Hornet Yello with the white roof is very close to DCA colours.

All you restorer types who have queries about colours need to be aware that Dulux published a Fleet Colour Handbook which is an absolute gold mine of information.

    Peter,
I agree with you. I think the Toyota colour is very close. There is also a Jeep colour that is similar. I pass my time in traffic looking at yellow cars! From your recollection, did all DCA vehicles have white tops? Certainlt everything in Queensland seems to have.
    Bjorn,
Thank you for that tip - I will track it down!

    EK Holden Ute Blue

    Hello Bigbjorn

My apologies for spelling your username incorrectly in previous postings. Thank you for providing the correct name of Telecom Gold and for the lead to the Dulux "Fleet" colour chart. I suppose it is a bit like my being given the short-shift by a Caterpillar Diesel Agent when I said the colour was yellow. I was very abruptly informed that is "Caterpillar Gold!"

The baby powder blue that Bluey has been painted is really a rather striking colour in itself. Not that I have seen the vehicle in person yet. I will not be attempting a "Restoration" back to a Telecom fleet specification.

However, the striking blue of the vehicle just made me recall another blue colour that was in my family. My grandfather had an original EK ute as his long term work vehicle which he kept even after his retirement. The ute's colour was a more sedate pale blue. From the collection of Google Images this blue might have been original colour. The photo was accessed 5th April 2020 from, ek holden ute - Other & Cars Background Wallpapers on Desktop Nexus (Image 2294419)

    Kind Regards

Following up on Bigbjorn's comment about the Dulux Dulon Fleet Formula book, I have found one from 1981 for sale and have acquired it. It gives the DCA colours and I'm told by the seller around 60 fleets in total. Once I have it I'll talk with the Mods and see if we can post the information somewhere it will be permanently available to all.

    Hello All

Thanks to the gracious assistance of a fellow club member and co-conspirator "Bluey the van" is now sitting in my paddock at home, with five wheels planted on the ground. Oh there is a story attached about that - there should be six wheels on the ground....

I will write a more fulsome report once I hear that my colleague has dropped things off where they should be and he has returned safety home - the journey and the job cannot be fully closed down. Safe travels and let me know when you are home?

Thank you tremendously for all your assistance today.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Good to hear, I hope the truck driver wasn't "hangry" (hungry and angry) as truckies were complaining they've shut down a lot of truck stops and meals places due to the virus, and a truck can't exactly fit in a drive through take-away joint. Unless that is how your 6th wheel got lost, at a drive through window?

    Hello RandLover,

You might want to discuss this with my co-conspirator for the adventure. V8 Ian... The Golden Nugget was open in Gympie.

Despite the new to the hire company's trailer fleet being an upgraded 3.5 tonne version, it was a little narrow when a set of dual tyres is loaded on. Plenty of clearance with only three of the four tyres on the back axle. Four tyres on the back axle ... no. The tyre we removed took a ride in the back of my Commodore wagon home. It will soon be reunited within its colleagues.

Update: the removed tyre is back on the truck. The battery is charging and questions asked and research is being performed about the Holley 350 CFM 74481 Double barrel carburettor that is fitted to Bluey's 302 Cleveland motor.

Also, the differences in ignition coils for said motor. Such as is having an extra letter ... "B" on the end of a product code for an ignition coil make it unsuitable for an engine. The coil's website recommends TIC 034R and the coil currently fitted to Bluey is a TIC 034RB apparently the R means that it needs a Resistor... Cannot find an explanation for the "B" bit and if it makes a difference to the coils performance or suitability to Bluey's engine.

Yes, folks the pleasures and delights (read why am I doing this to myself again) of having clones and transplants in a vehicle have just started ... Wweeeee

    Kind regards
    Lionel

    Hello V8 Ian and All,

The front rims on Bluey are actually an after market, once in a long time ago - chrome rims. I had a close look and there are some last remnants of chroming showing through.

I think I can remember my Dad's van having a dual wheel axle on the rear and also a set of pneumatic air hose couplings for when they towed rather well constructed plant trailers. These were made for carrying the largest version of Ditch Witches and for other loads - such as the occasional backhoe.

I really do not like the idea of having to carry two different types of spare wheel. Looks like I am on the hunt again...

Anyone got some spare parts for a 1973 International D-Series 1210 out there?

    Kind regards
    Lionel
