When I was in Darwin no one I knew would drink forex.

I often took it to parties because I knew no one would drink my beer.

But it was a bitter ale , not a lager, and you could drink it out bush kimberly cool.

As for Brisbane Bitter , I didn't realise it was just Melbourne renamed, what I did know was it was carlton horse **** and salt.

Bernie Powers actually released a nice lager called Queensland Bitter , but it disappeared when Bernie grabbed his yeasts and ran.

I did a Castlemaine Perkins brewery tour with my sons a couple of years ago and was surprised at the tastings afterwards.....how many different products they actually brewed there , and the food from the bistro was excellent and you could wash your lunch down very cheaply.

So if you want something to do , you could do a lot worse than a brewery tour.

Bernie Power built his brewery out of spite. The Power family had pubs in Qld. for several generations and considered themselves pub gentry. Now Bond and Elders-IXL took over XXXX and Bulimba and asset stripped them and changed the credit arrangements with the publicans. Power and other big publicans did not like being put on short terms or cash before despatch. Bernie and Co managed to raise enough funds to build their own brewery. This was later sold to Carlton/Fosters and is now their biggest plant.

Powers beer biggest selling point was that it was made by a Qld. owned company not by Mexican crooks. No better or worse than any other bulk mainstream beer.

The Trade Practices Act changed the pub business forever. Lessees of brewery owned pubs could no longer be compelled to sell only that brewery's products (tied houses, they were called). This prompted the asset stripping. Brewery owned pubs were sold off by the hundreds by the brewery's new owners.

All this talk of tours is well and good but how, pray tell, does one manage to arrive and more importantly, depart said premises? (Legally)

Take up residence within 150km.. Is there a limit as to how often one can change their abode?
Departure could be a little trickier, but a wheelbarrow coud be useful.
