    Oh totally agree. What I was talking about was slightly different though.

    Theres an objective and subjective part of what is a liveable income. Below a certain $ value it is genuinely very difficult to live regardless of your spending habits - this is the objective part. Arguably this is the poverty line. That was what I meant where there is a strong link between money and happiness. Above that - where 'liveable' becomes subjective - is all about expectations and financial management. That is the point where the correlation is less strong, and as another put it above, your spending just rises to match income.

    Put another way - financial security is directly related to happiness. You don't need to have a lot of money to be financially secure. But there is a point where income is so low that financial security is not possible. At that point, more money = happier. But above that line it's more about spending habits.
