Bloody Hell, not only did I predict offending some one, it looks like I may have offended a possible whole bunch of "someones", a bit.

Thanks for taking this with a generous spirit. K?

Yes Bigbjorn ,in Western Qld., a ringer ‘rings’ cattle, ie keeps them together ,
in timbered country in Qld. a ringer is a man ring barking scrub, or nowadays , Tordoning.

in shearing sheds , a ringer gets the first pen , he is the fastest shearer.
in church the ringer is the person who cannot sleep in .

PS. Rest easy my Hills friend , I am never offended

I met a girl in the Wratten's Forest area years ago.
She was a timber cutter's daughter and you could hear her ring barking a mile away!

Out at Winton in the days of big flocks and my youth the ringer was the shearer with the highest tally when the shed cut out. He had "rung" the shed. A shearer reputed to be fast was a "gun".

Yep, that's how I knew it. A 'Gun' shearer could normally shear 200+ sheep a day.

    Are we digressing................................again?

I have been dealing with him for about 10yrs,and he is really good, thorough, and helpful.Knows heaps about LR's.
There's constant sparring over that, as he's a Toyota man, through and through.

My son (technically step son but whatever) is part part Indian and I've seen how what people think are playful taunts can really affect someone. His mates used to call him the n word as a joke and he really hated it, he felt that his skin colour was the his defining feature not who he was as a mate. To all their credits he called them on it after a while and they were very apologetic. He has had plenty of racial abuse on the footy field and out and about, he brushes it off (much better than I was at that age, I was punching on when people abused my mates of different racial backgrounds). But don't underestimate what we think is a bit of fun can really hurt someone.

I've seen it from the other side when living in Thailand where whites are only 3% of the population.
Thais assumed all whites were ignorant racist druggie drunks who slept with prostitutes every night, got Thai girls pregnant and abandoned them and their children and could not be trusted. They actually complimented us for not being typical whites.
Remember how outraged Aussies were when Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew said Aussies were becoming the 'poor white trash' of Asia? That was a widespread opinion in Asia.
It's good to get outside our little bubble and realise how the rest of the world sees us. Uncomfortable, but good.

Sounds like the old "She was only the Butcher's daughter but her undercut was dripping every day," but indoors.

Mick, Aussies are not the only ones by a long shot.
Scene: Small Paris Bistrot circa 1978. Yank one end of the table & us the other.

    Yank. Where are you from?

    Me. Australia.

Yank Isn't that the country next to Switzerland?

& another. (I must go to some right Tips. ) Same question by another Stars & Stripes plonker Australia? Isn't that the country that eats it's National Emblem?

Being somewhat of a Diplomat, I held my tongue in both venues & didn't mention the then demise of the American Bald Eagle. Now built up again. FWIW
