I normally don't bother putting it behind the fence and just leave it at the tap, if someone had a genuine use for it, (tow rope broke, hose burst on car, etc) I wouldn't mind if they just left a note saying so.
I must have very lucky because the bastard here cut the Jet & tap end fittings off & left the 10m (Fire) hose. I suspect one person, but a bit hard to prove as he lives in the burbs & really has no need for such a bit of gear, but if I unexpectedly visit & find him using them on his garden, camouflaged by him saying "This is my hose & I bought it with fittings" I could be buggered. Still, there are other ways of catching a monkey. Now where did I put my pet 8m Croc. that needs a burb holiday?

The driver of the fire engine was charged with causing an accident and leaving the scene of an accident.

There was also the issue that a few fire engines got tickets for going through red lights and they were only withdrawn after the fire brigade threatened strikes - caused a bit of friction between police and the fireies - good outcome was these incidents caused the laws to be clarified - drivers can go through red lights etc to get out if the way of emergency vehicles and laws clarified on emergency vehicles going through red lights - when they can and cannot - eg particularly ambulances do not necessarily have to have lights and sirens to be in an emergency situation like when carrying a patient so can go through lights etc.

Another reason I wish road laws were consistent across states and territories - In Vic, there are no exceptions to run red lights - there was a court case a few years back where a driver moved into the intersection to get out of the way of an Ambulance, and was pinged by a red light camera - he took it to court and lost.

Thanks all. You can now see why I started this thread. I'm with you Gav, this silly at times bloody country, needs more Standardisation of this nature so long as it doesn't follow all the bad points of other State's Legislation. Had standardisation been in vogue throughout OZ I could have saved all res-ponders wasting their time replying.

Still it has sorted out some of the points on here, you can't drive through a RED, well you can if you use your nouse & don't have a prang & trust to luck the coppers would see some common sense in action.. I think that is the good guts of this thread? Possibly.

That should help the Vicpol out with their quotas, run a red light in "hot pursuit" and pick up a fine that the taxpayer coughs up for, win, win?

Red light fines for emergency services are pretty easy to make go away - I’ve been at the wheel of a Fire Appliance twice which has tripped either a speed camera or red light camera - you just send a copy of the log back showing when you were asked to go code 1 and if that time is before the incident then it goes away, no further action required. The time I got caught speeding in the Brigades Hilux was very funny - 90 in an 80 zone - with the pump it had in the back it’s top speed was around 95 (think old 80’s Hilux) - everyone was suitably impressed it was capable of getting a ticket.
