Although*ulcers*and*necrosis*have been attributed to the bites, a scientific study by Isbister and Gray (2003) showed they had other causes, mostly infections. A study of 130 white-tailed spider bites found no necrotic ulcers or confirmed infections.[2]
You may have read the necrosis bit in the press years ago about a nurse in Hobart.
That was self inflicted attention seeking.

SWMBO was bitten by one a couple of years ago (we identified and dispatched said spider) and while it didnt ulcerate it did blow up with a fluid filled blister the size of a 10 cent piece and took about 4 weeks to heal over properly. It didnt get infected but certainly could have, and if so would have been a nasty mess. I would compare the wound to a second degree burn with all the potential complications that could arise from that.

Tote
