Hi
Well this will be a fun thread to follow :-)
My wife and I have a small farm near Kandos/Rylstone. I have only had a couple of experiences towing cars out with a tractor.
The first was in 2009 when we were looking at farms around Capertee Valley to buy. My wife's Subaru (~ 2003 manual with low range) just got its left wheel in a deep culvert and I had to go looking for a local farmer with a tractor. He was very nice and pulled us out.
The second time was a bit under a decade ago. We had had the farm for couple of year and I had just bought my first tractor. We had ordered a water tank and had given clear instructions to the company how to get to the farm, which they didn't pass onto the truck driver. He didn't arrive late afternoon as expected but we got a call from the truck driver a bit before midnight on the rainy evening. He had skidded off the road. He had gone the wrong way and the clay roads had got him well and truly. We phoned a tow truck company and met him at the site. His long flat bed trailer (a 6m one, with our water tank on the back) was unhitched and positioned at 45 degrees across the road. The tow truck driver said no-way was his tow truck gonna get him out of that. "Did I have a tractor?" Ummm... yes .... but I have never used it for towing a truck. I have not even driven it on-road before and not over 20 km/h and not even in its highest gears. "Ah don't worry, you just get the tractor and I'll show you what to do."
First step was to use the pallet forks to lift the trailer so he could get it hitch up again onto the back of truck. The tow truck guy got me to position the tractor and he connected up his really thick straps. Then using the tow truck drivers expertise in guiding me we pulled the truck into position. Then it was a slow trip to the farm as the truck had to be towed for 10 or 15 kms as there were many clay sections that were very slippery. The truck had to keep up its speed, but not too fast and I had to keep ahead of the truck. We got to the farm at 3 am, unloaded my water tank, and the truck driver just wanted to get back home.
I learn a lot from the tow truck driver that evening and a lot about what my tractor could do.
