Not just near Aramac - I encountered this on Ludgate Hill station between Muttaburra and Prairie.
There is an area of nasty stuff up around Aramac and Jericho that the locals call "swampy soil". It is greyish and when dry wears down to a hard surface like a concrete slab. Wheeled traffic wears the top off into a fine dust that gets in everything. Wet, one has to move vehicles and machinery regularly or they just slowly sink into the soil. Proper PIA for property owners. Go away for a week and if there is rain, return to find every vehicle or piece of plant on the place sunk to the axle housings or chassis rails.

Muttaburra is well known for it. The Capricorn Highway west of Jericho used to be like a roller coaster.

And yet more interest to the tale! yesterday the mother of the next door property owner was brought out to stay there for a fortnight by the bloke they had hoped would take on the caretaker job.
This afternoon I got a call from him asking if I could take him out to the bitumen, where his niece could pick him up. Turns out that he thought he would "do the right thing" and get some firewood for her. So he drives out to the bogged trailer with firewood unloaded next to it........
Now have another ute bogged on the property.

you must feel like some people never learn JD
The family/paddock/thread that just keeps delivering...The questions are, how long is winter and how many vehicles do they have?
![]()
The only vehicles that live there that are bogged are the trailer and the Fergie. Everything else has been brought in (to get bogged)!
The only working vehicles there now are a four wheeler and a small dozer (with flat batteries!). The owner is currently working in Cooma, says he will be back in three weeks.
I wait for the next episode with bated breath!
