What was your most Crap Car?

"What was your worst car"

the tense is all wrong,,
you're assuming my current car is not my worst... [bigrolf]
I only use BSL coz "Christine" is taken...

These are not my worst cars I have owned but the worst cars I have worked on so will never own. Rolls Royce , VW , V6 Commodore & Morris 1500. There are a few others that I did not like working on but they were so nice to drive I have not added them to the list. The RR were a pig to work on & there was no feeling , no noise . The VW they were fun to drive but I just hated hated hated working on them . Commodore V6 hate working on them & driving them , I could never get the seat in rite position to be comfortable.
Morris 1500 what was there to like about them , NOTHING. They should have stuck with the Morris 1100.

Just thought of a couple more to add to that list Mazda RX-7 , those rotary motors once they got a little worn were a pig to start & the two distributers that had to be set one slightly advanced to the other .From what I remember I didn't like driving them either. The Austin Champ , we had one come in for service once a year off a pineapple farm , we had to do a clutch on one time what a nightmare , twice as bad as doing a LR one.

Holden Overlander Ute - would turn heads where ever you went, but spent half it’s time being repaired.

Had a 17m turning circle - meant 20 point turns was the norm; used 28-30L/100km on the open road - double this off road; first time I took it off road it snapped the front drive shaft; needed 2 transfer box rebuilds, wheel bearings would seize, brake callipers would lock on, and had oil leaks that made a Land Rover look good.

But it was a fun car to own and did look good.

To be fair to Arthur Hayward - mine was not a genuine built Overlander but rather a Frankenstein creation built using under sized Jeep running gear.

Swapped it for a 10 year old Range Rover Classic and never looked back.

I think I have told this story on here once before,somewhere.

A mate had an old Crown,absolute heap of rubbish,interior,seats,etc were shagged,but it still went most of the time.Dents all over it,looked like it had been in a rally.Exhaustvwas always falling off it.
He was an apprentice with the usual no money,old man had the biggest refrigeration company in the state but didn’t give him a cent.

Anyway,it was always blowing up diffs,more than likely abuse caused them to fail.

We used to lift it up with the forklift at the workshop,on the weekend and replace them,got them from the wreckers.

One day we lifted it up and there was a metal letterbox jammed up under it with the mail still in it[bighmmm]

I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall when they opened it, especially if it had been to advise that they had two days to collect their winnings in Tatersalls which had expired 3 day before.


I bet the Postie would have got blamed for being a bit rough with their mailbox.

Oh yeah - one of many cars I wish I had kept. Can a car be so crap and so good at the same time?

If you check out the Overlander Facebook group, some are now onto their third or fourth bodies, and even second or third chassis. Just like grand father’s old axe.

Now “Cars you regret selling” would be another interesting thread.

For me the list would be shorter for the woes I don't regret selling & could not wait to get rid of them.

I saw one of those Overlander’s tow a drowned Jeep out of Nolan’s Brook,a few years ago.

The Jeep was a late model,with a gut full of water in the V8 engine,it was locked solid.[bigsad]
