Not a crap car as such, although by today's standard a dinosaur, I had a 308 TH400 WB ute for a year or so. With the high ratio LSD in the back I was used to some fun times on dirt, and also reasonably quick highway trips with the RD9 radar detector attached to the visor😎. A couple of big Bosch Bull250 lamps on the 4 post bar was mandatory in WA rural night flying.
I was enjoying a bit of a leapfrog on one particular trip with a Saab 95, and after both of us caught up at a servo on the outskirts of Perth I was dismayed to see after all the 160kmh+ overtaking and hammering he used 25% of the fuel my Quadrajet equipped ,mild cammed Holden v8 did. That was the beginning of the dawning on me about the efficiency of euro forced engines...😏
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
I had a similar experience on the freeway west of Parramatta in the early 1980s pulling 5000 RPM in my two door Falcon thinking I was pretty good at 200KM/h when a 242GT Volvo pulled out and passed me and disappeared into the distance.......
I had a mate who had a HJ Sandman ute with a 308 who lived in Brewarrina and who used to come home to Blayney on the weekend. Very fast trips but not cheap to run

Tote

Probably needs something to keep the dust off the load.
These days they are all decked out with stainless,as per regs.
Crap cars, the guy next door, many years ago had this real old diesel Gemini.
Bloody slow rattly thing, all falling apart, back seats were long gone.Ran on the smell of an oily rag.
Anyway,in those days no one had diesels, and he used to work on the dredges in the Brisbane harbour, doing shift work.
He never paid for fuel, used to bring home a 20 liter drum of diesel, regularly.
When i first met SWMBO she had one of those very first Toranas.Cant remember the model. Before the XU1 shape.
The drivers seat was loose,as the mounts had rusted away.
Seatbelt sort of held the driver in the seat.
Anyway, one day her boss decided to move it,he was a big bloke, saw the parking officer chalk the tyre,as it was parked out the front.
He ended up in the back seat
And swore he would never get in that thing ever again.
I then bought her a HR sedan,186,powerglide auto, disk brake upgrade.
She had that for ages, until a ball joint broke,as she was travelling along at about 60K,and it was written off.
Got stolen once,as it didn't need a key to start it,the auto cooler pipes rubbed through, and the thieves dumped it,so we got it back, undamaged.
I took the line off and soldered it up with blue tip, fitted it back on,filled it up with auto fluid, and off it went.

HB Torana, actually a rebadged HB Vauxhall Viva. GMH hotted them up to be the Brabham Torana then exported the mods back to Vauxhall.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
Had a BMW X5 for 2 years. Worked out after moved it on it had spent 50% of that time in the dealership being repaired. Needed 2 engines and while they denied there was a problem the last engine was starting the behave the same again. Was the 4.4 petrol v8 engine that was also a problem in the Range Rover. Also had a new radiator, water pump and thermostat, and hoses. Just before I sold it as a parting gesture the self levelling suspension decided to go.
Am told that if I ever bring a BMW home in future to ring ahead so my bags can be packed and waiting at the door
You know, the thing that staggers me is the number of cars some people have had.
In my sixty plus years of licenced driving, I have owned less than ten cars, and had perhaps four company cars. Even if you add in the five cars my father had through the years before I left home, the total is less than some people seem to have managed to go through in ten or twenty years. (My number does not include the ones I have bought for parts)

Same here,i have had 8 private cars in 45 yrs of driving. All either Holdens or LR's.
As for company cars, well over 14 i recon over the years, which reduces the number of private cars needed.
The company cars are the ones that i have used extensively for myself, not the number my company has owned, which over 30yrs,is quite a few.
Some peoples sigs on here have more than 8 vehicles.
Anyway, its horses for courses i suppose.
