I have a few photos but our PC at home doesn't have a 3 1/2" drive so I'll have to post them tomorrow at work. More importantly, who's doing the trip report????!!!!!???? My vote goes to Tony as he's now retired (again).

I thought it was around 10.30am, maybe just after. It was around 12.00-12.30pm when we were cooking lunch in the drizzle. We'll have to go back to the hill (Mt Blundell) when the weather is a bit better.

It could have been earlier. Lunch was at 12:30. We left the cotter camp ground at 9:38 by my truck. The only real work was that little loop bit we had done. The rest was good dirt roads realy.
My father-in-law was looking at the pics and commented that the track looked like it had been graded so would probably have acounted for it being so unstable. He also thought that if the drive shaft had dug in when it snaped it could easily have caused the car to roll. Hill was steep but didn't look hard untill you started going up it. During the recovery I was getting a little worried about how long my beastie was going to stay put. I definatly couldn't get any grip to continue up once I had stoped.

It certainly was unstable but I'm not sure about being graded. Can they grade on slopes like that? The tailshaft failure appeared identical to Redback's at Appin last year - it screwed itself to destruction. There wasn't any mud in the end of it. We think the left rear went into the bank due to the shape of the exhaust. If you look in the 1st photo Edd, you can see it's bent all the way around to the rear diff.

I noticed the exhaust. With lots of torque going through it being squashed against a rock to make it slightly out of round or not straight would be enough to start the ball rolling so to say. Was he making good progress untill the shaft broke, would he have made it up? Matt

    Hi Edd

Yer I've been looking on ebay, theres one down your way I like the look of but he wonts too much money, still I'll see what he says after the auction.

I'm thinking at the moment about putting the engine and gearbox axles etc into the 90

as Scouse has commented I'm retired again so not a lot of money to play with.
Theres no way that track had been graded way to steep for a grader and the ledges would not do one any good anyway. We had another look at the map this evening and that track isn't on the map. but we'll have to go back an do the bugger again.

    ACE

i had lost traction on the front but the maxie was doing its job and we were still going up until everything went pear shape.
