Cheers, Mick.
Anyone else feel like they got skun this year buying a tree on-farm? Feels like they've been testing what the market could bear for the past several years- they've just exceeded it for us. It seems to have taken about a 20% jump every year for the past few. A pity when what used to be a fun family outing leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
Might grow our own or get a nice potted conifer.

Classy.
I was in bungings the other day and noticed the poor quality expensive live xmas trees in their nursery. Probably too tall for the average room and being a young Norfolk pine had very few spindly branches.
......but people were buying them.....probably for the pot....no Nigel, the container they were in.
I once had a Norwegan Spruce in a pot, then planted it in a spot in the back yard, I grew fast and although it looked nice it then cost me $800 to cut it down
I have a mate who planted a crop of Christmas trees on his block a while back, he's on the main road to one of the power stations and the first year he sold well to the passing traffic. He lost interest in the second year; now he has a paddock with a 20-meter tall pine forest in it.
My old Dad grew a small one over the 12 months in a pot (read 20 gallon oil drum) in the front garden. Come Xmas it would come inside, decorated & used in the house & then put back outside to grow on some more for next time.
I don't recall how many years it lasted but it was quite a few. Drum was painted Red & Green for Xmas.
Decided to go different this year - no real tree, or pretend real tree, but something that doesn’t pretend to be either. Found this at Target. It’s made from tree branches of some description, stripped of bark and sanded then threaded onto a long steel rod on a base. While I’m sure it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, we really like it.
