I don't believe anyone is saying it's not okay to call a black duck a black duck. I'm pretty sure that's just been made up. Please point me in the right direction if I'm wrong though?
No idea why that should be seen to be offensive at all. Some days our large dam is host to scores of them. Someone did tell me the breed but we still refer to them as Black Ducks' cos they are & I have forgotten their name & knowing their name would not change their colour.
If I had to stand in court & swear on a Bible that something hit me in the face near the dam the answer would honestly have to be a "Little black Duck" or simply a Black Duck (or even my grumpy neighbour). It wasn't a 'roo or Crox or a wombat or even an Antarctic Sea Lion. it was a little black duck. I would have already taken an oath to tell the truth, the whole truth & nothing but the Troof.
Our ducks will never be referred to as Little Rainbow Ducks.
They would likely be most offended. I know I would, wouldn't youse?
All this crap because a cop in the USof A recently plugged a black guy or leant on his windpipe. Not even in OZ.

I had my tongue firmly planted in my cheek about the black duck, but baa baa black sheep has definitely gone. Our daughter previously worked in child care and ...... PC got in.

Your spelling is American, but at least you got the syntax right. Offence cannot be given, it can only be taken. People need to consider that, and then remember it.
I learnt a long time ago that what others think of me is none of my business. This is a sentiment that Ricky Gervais uses to great effect. (Thanks for the reminder, Chook.) If I try, as you seem to want me too, not to offend anyone, then I might as well go back two years, where I had given up on life but was too gutless to do anything about it, and just let the vocal minority that you think should be heard walk all over me. Members of that vocal minority have no more right to be heard than me, and I hate nearly everything they stand for. But, if I say that on the so-called "social" media platforms I'll be cancelled, after being hunted down and prevented from working and studying almost anywhere. They won't
I appreciate your passion for this subject, and you have obviously spent some time studying it. What you haven't done, in my opinion, is learnt it by living it. You once mentioned that you did not know my age or my status. Well, my age is 67. I'm not sure what you meant by 'status'. I'm a widower and a pensioner, but I don't think that's where you were going. So, I went to a fancy school, but I didn't fit in. I then joined the Army, '72, quite prepared to go wherever they sent me. I didn't fit in. I came out and worked in the motor industry in many occupations. I kinda fitted in. I got into transport, where I didn't need to fit in.
I also spent some time in outback Qld. I found that the indigenous people out there were no different from the "" I dealt with in the Army. I DID fit in. I don't judge a person by what they appear to be, but but WHO they appear to be. I've never understood racism. We all bleed the same. It's like judging people because they have red hair, or are colour blind. It makes no sense. They, and I, had no choice into how or where we were born.
My point here is this: As you said, language changes, always has. But words carry no offence unless you choose them to do so. These days, people are being robbed of that choice because the vocal minorities you champion have hijacked any form of reasonable discussion, and I'm sick of it. I'll say what I please and only the swear filter will stop me.
