I think it's good that he made the move and it's now documented at least. You can always go back to "since the apology x has/has not happened yet". I do feel there's a great degree of lip service though. What did it really achieve?

More opportune than a high official in the Soviet Union or East Germany. Or the CCCP for that matter, or a high Caste Indian or Thai? Or a cartel in Colombia? It kinda resides in where you get your stats, doesn't it?

100%. But it doesn't change anything in your own backyard though. If you moved to any of these places you'd very possibly never get a chance to be a part of those things anyway. Just because someone's else's situation sucks doesn't make another person's situation suck less? We're lucky to have a very progressive culture in a lot of ways I reckon. Look at Myanmar right now. Welcome to the civilized future! ? Who would have thought that in 2021 a military coup would be still an option in any way

Thread seems to have shifted from political correctness to how people feel about themselves and others. If you discuss this topic amongst younger generations, you'd find there is no issues to be had there. All of this sounds a lot like 'Back in my day' kind of thing - maybe it should all be in the Grumpy old Buggers thread instead of here.

While political correctness (what we were discussing here) gives me the irrits, what people want to call themselves, identify as or what sexual preferences they have is all up to them and I have no issues at all with it and I think they are completely different things. Not sure what difference it makes to you or I if someone wants to identify as a deer - I probably wouldn't do this in the gun totin' south of 'merica though and while it is an extreme case, if it makes that person feel better about themselves, then live and let live IMO - I won't judge, nor will I for the multitude of others that don't feel like they fall into the usual categories we think of as 'normal' - it's just a perception after all isn't it like any other cultural 'norm' we've come to expect - doesn't make it wrong IMO.

Not so long ago, being Gay was a crime and looked down on - thankfully we've come a ways and that's not the case now, but looking at a lot of these comments, I see we still have a long way to go in other similar areas.
