I have just bought and fitted a small hand winch to raise/lower my spare tyre. It was a pain in the arse to mount that permanently.
I spent quite a bit of time looking at hundreds of winches (there are thousands of different types and sizes) before I bought the one I settled on.
Good luck with your efforts, love to see your finished result here.

On my D2a, I fitted a front 50mm receiver in the centre of the bull bar (bar was ARB winch ready version).
My Runva winch was attached to one of those receiver cradles, but as noted the combination was heavy to move around.
I had isolated 70mm cables with 350?A Anderson plugs running to the front and rear tow receivers from the dual battery (Tim's Traxide 160 system).
Actually never used the system in anger, but would have worked for your situation with a receiver hitch mounted on the trailer.
