The survey is US based, on vehicles sold in the USD area. North American specifications often differ to the rest of the world, for example, for many years, diesel Land Rovers were not available in the USA. The survey is totally irrelevant outside the country of origin.

Still wonder about the information though. From own experience there is an attitude difference between those who buy a Ford or Vauxhall and those who buy a VW. In the U.K. anyway. All these compete in the same market segment for the same customer with similar product and are seen by the customers as direct competitors

Warranty claims were far higher on the VW than the other 2. All the manufacturers treated warranty claims in a similar manner seeking to push as much of the cost on to the dealer

A Ford or Vauxhall customer would come in to the dealership looking for a fight as the car was not up to the standard they expected and were not happy. The VW customer would come in almost apologetic that they had found something that was not right and could it be looked at for them

Am sure they have a way of removing this type of bias from the survey and results

It’s out folks - I want to hear the excuses.

    I’m pretty confident they don’t.

It’s like when we purchased the Defender - a $60k vehicle.

Had a small noise we wanted looked at - “Normal, it’s a Defender” was one response.

No it’s ****ing not! It’s out folks - I want to hear the excuses.

And that’s when the fight started It’s out folks - I want to hear the excuses.

But seriously, different owners of different levels of the same Marque have different expectations also.

Ive seen owners of $30k VWs expecting ride comfort etc of a Porsche and conversely a Porsche owner who expected Porsche light bulbs to be superior to normal bulbs.

And to make matters worse, all of a sudden (only 5 years later) what was a $60K new vehicle is perceived as being of even lower quality, with the new model priced at double!!

...regardless of the fact that that same $60K vehicle is arguably better than the current $120K new model, and is still worth $60K 5 years and 100,000kms later!

The reliability survey is entirely ‘reliant’ on how well the vehicle is serviced. Land Rover dealer servicing is notoriously bad, hence reliability is perceived as bad.

In my experience Defenders are super reliable if properly serviced IE: not by Land Rover dealers.

Lexus - Arguably the ugliest too, with a face only predators mother could love! ...is ugliness a customer complaint / reliability factor?

Probably as a legitimate complaint as a lot of the others no doubt.

Last Monday's (22 Feb) Courier Mail has a snippet regarding an unlucky couple who bought a Land Rover from Frizelle's at the Gold Coast. According to the evidence given at the Qld Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT), the vehicle experienced a fault every tank of fuel on average... including a failed gearbox on the day of delivery... so the hapless couple demanded a refund...the dealer didn't dispute the facts... but it took a court order to get any action... Frizelle's ordered to pay back almost $70,000.. doesn't help the reputation of the brand nor the reputation of the dealer...

Other half has a Lexus which was mine Pre Disco days Honestly say its is now scrap only value due to two issues Lexus and private auto electrical types cannot work out. Beautiful car still it is almost worthless, it may be road worthy but it could not pass one.

The five year older one in happily in much better shape excluding folding mirrors and similar little cosmetic issues for the nice family still driving it.
