The l70 is very effective at picking up hair... where I groomed our dog and its hair ended up through the entire bloody house (hair, not fur.... its a poodle) It effortlessly vacuumed it up. If you have females living in your house. You will be constantly unblocking hair from all the drains and pulling the rotary brush from the vacuum to clear the hair from. There is no way you can "self clean" wrapped around, tangle/wedged in hair :)

I tend to agree with the dog fur seizing up anything rotary on vacuum cleaners. In saying that, both our dogs were quite long haired, Border Collies. We gave up with the robotic vac and bought a super dooper vac, the type with the see through bowl, catcher thingo.
Even with it, every couple of uses, I'd have to dismantle the head and cut through the fur wound around the rotary brush, to get rid of it.
Neither pooch with us anymore, so perhaps I'll get the robovac out for another go.

'Self cleaning' is a bit of a misnomer - as Shane said, all sorts of things get wrapped around the brushes, etc and the bins in them are very small. Having said that, our T8 does a good job of keeping the pug and cat hair at bay and the type of hair your dog has would make a big difference I think - the machine goes out daily to keep up though and even then on occasion the system is so clogged the auto empty station will fault, but not often. You still have to take the brush out once a week minimum to clean it but they all come apart to do this with relative ease. There are auto empty units available for a range of Ecovacs, Roomba and Roborock units.

Youtube is your friend - there are plenty of vacuum test videos but the most useful I've found is 'Vacuum Wars' - he has hundreds of videos and tests units against others - there is one for auto empty robots on there from a while ago - the tech changes so quickly it can be a little hard to keep up.

There's no one 'perfect' machine out there and some peoples situations that would preclude using these for the reasons mentioned so far.

Do some watching on Youtube and you'll get a much better idea of what they can and can't do.

Can any of these things with a mop function oil or wax timber floors?

Straight away the mind sidetracked to ways it might be rigged to produce 3D point clouds. Son burst that bubble by asking how will you get the data?

The one I have had a hard floor option. I've never tried it. It only holds water so my expectations are quite low. Its more of a wipe over than a mop with metho/water or hard floor cleaner.

I quite often allow it to vacuum the hard floors (we have a large area of bamboo floor boards). It picks up a remarkable amount of dirt from the floors. If you are someone that keeps your floors clean, you likely will find vacuuming them pointless ( we have a family of five and a dog making an endless bloody enormous mess).

Not that I'm aware of unfortunately - would be a good add on. Mop works well on my bamboo floors and the cheap arse laminate flooring in the bedrooms, so I don't need that functionality but I like the idea - you should email a few of the main players - they're always looking for the next thing to 'one up' the opposition. [biggrin]

The top of the dustpan is a water reservoir on the one here. You clip a micro-fiber cloth under it and it add water to the cloth and will literally "wipe" the floors as its moving around. I'm sure it works, but I reckon I'd rather just grab the mop bucket out and do it properly than mess around setting it up.

If anyone is really interested, I can try and see how it works. It might take me a while, as I'd have to let it map the house first so I can setup the hardfloor boundries.

Yeah, ours mops brilliantly - particularly with the 'pro mop' attachment we bought for it - it actually agitates as it goes so does a really good job - as good as I can do with a mop myself without really scrubbing. I was talking about a waxing function. [thumbsupbig]

Here's a video of the mop - note that I don't ask ours to clean up bird **** and dried cranberry juice like he did here, so not asking as much as he is obviously. Maybe it's just me but I'd clean any messes up like this if/as they happened and not let them dry on the floor in the first place.
