The Olympic Games program is part of a plan to grow Brisbane into a city to rival Sydney and Melbourne.
Huge infrastructure upgrades are part of the plan. This maximises the public benefits of the spending, to avoid creating white elephants.
The Games themselves are expected to cost about $5b, and 85% of the Games venues already exist, and will be upgraded.
There is a lot of other important infrastructure proposed over the next 11 years. Motorways, rail links etc. The Coomera Connector was mentioned. There is also a new motorway planned from Bracken Ridge to Redlands. High speed rail to the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and the Cross River Rail into the city.
The athletes village in Brisbane will become a major river front urban apartment precinct. Smaller athletes villages are planned for the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Remember how the Commonwealth Games athletes village became student accommodation for Griffith Uni on the Gold Coast?
Costs are being shared 50:50 between the state and Commonwealth.
Brisbane and surrounds are expected to grow by 1.4 million by 2040.

Brisbane's 2032 Olympic Games venues will be a mix of new and old. Here's how it will look

They definitely have some work to do.That’s more than has been done in the last 20 yrs.

The road upgrades can’t come quick enough, they are so far behind it’s rediculous.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Infrastructure spending is substantially labour cost directly or indirectly. Govt gets 1/4 to 1/3 of labour cost back with income tax, add on the multiplier effect of the other 2/3 of income spent which also becomes someone’s wages which is taxed again, rinse and repeat this 3 or 4 times as each person spends and pays income taxes. Then throw 10% GST income on top of that.

Add on visitor/tourist dollars, rinse and repeat income tax on these dollars and add GST to govt income.

How much does it really cost Govt? In reality not the simple infrastructure build cost.
