Exclamation My wife makes my car horny...... well sort of

Can someone figure out what the hell is going on??....

I gave the DiscoII to my wife for the day yesterday.... her car was being serviced.

Mid morning the phone rings and all I can here is a car horn....wait a minute.. that's my car horn

Then SWMBO yelling down the phone.. "HOW DO I TURN IT OFF!"...

Well we tried locking and unlocking via the remote, we tried using the key in the door... tried swearing at it...tried swearing at each other.... nothing worked

Now this was not the on/off noise the horn makes when the alarm goes off... it was long continuous beep.. like someone leaning on the horn.... checked the button wasn't stuck..

....Now all the neighbours are out to find out what is happening...

While all this is happening... you can actually start the car.. as long as you can put up with the noise - so I figured it was NOT alarm related.

Last resort, she lifts the bonnet... to disconnect the battery... Works out she needs a spanner and goes to the garage to get one.

.... Obviously the Disco is a smart car... The horn stopped as she walked up the driveway spanner in hand... (probably scared of the though how her waving a spanner around in the engine bay....)

My Question is what would cause this .... the horn beeped continuously for 20 minutes ... then stopped of it's own accord.Apparenty it started after she unlocked the car got in and put the key in the ignition... It has never happened before and I can't see anything wrong...

Is one of the horn switches sticking down ?
    That's a common problem.

Common self defense mechanism that Rover has built into a few vehicles that scare the other half of our lives into not wanting to drive .

Do you know if it can be retrofitted to a defender??

Then I might get mine back

Rover add a discalimer something like, once the vehicle passes hands to a spouse it is not possible for the horn activation device to have any effect .
