    Question Best Rubber for a Defender?

    Its time to look for new rubber for my Defender 110. It is currently shoed in General Grabbers 235/85 R16 and I would like to know what tyres you all have and what do you think of them. Like most of us, I would like to do mutch more offroad driving then I do (on average once a fortnight & 2-3 longer trips per year) and so I need some rubber that would be handling well and living long on the black stuff as well as in the wet and sticky stuff as well.

    285/75/16 BFG muds
    Not noisey on road, good grip wet or dry, and great mileage. I ran 33/12.50/15s on my V8 110 but as well as new rims it required flares on the flares! Nice soft ride though!

    I agree with Ray.....Perelli's are a good tyre. The all terrain lasts forever!.....Well nearly forever.

    how many kms did you get out of the grabbers....?
    and were you rotating the spare in......?




    i got 80,000 out of mine without using the spare......they got me through thick and thin.....
    and some places only just......but they got me through.....


    so.............................
    ................................................i replaced mine with another set of grabbers........


    which i grabbed at the right price......thanks to tusker......


    if you are going for bfgs.......try and find something in the 255 85R 16 size.....
    this is the correct size for a fender......and your speedo will read correctly.....it over reads by about 50metres in 5 kms......
    from the factory.......also you may have noticed that your 60kph is slightly slower than everyone elses.....?

    My money would be on the BFG MT or AT. Both excellent tyres.

    The other good one would be the Goodyear MTR. Stonking mud tyre and actually excellent on-road (even in the wet).

    Otherwise, if you're not mud plugging, the General Grabbers are good for dirt, sand & gravel. Just get yerself a second set of tyres for playing in mud.

    Me, I have BFG Trac Edge as a general all-rounder and Michelin XZLs for mud. (I run Goodyear MTRs & Michelin XPCs on the Freelander...)

    Personally I think MTRs have left the BFGs behind.

    Scorpions I had weren't bad. Didn't do anything brilliantly off-road, but didn't do anything badly either. A bit on the small side though in a 235/85/16.

    My current touring tyres are the Goodrich Armour jobbies. Better than any BFG I've had, & better than the Scorpion. Better on-road than the MTR, but not as good when its slippery off-road. Just fine on gravel, sand etc.
