You have to click 'yesterday' next to 'now' at the top of the table to see the details but the US had 465,670 new cases yesterday, well and truly an all time record and it still looks exponential.

Me too, wanted to mix mrna with the standard old school astra.

difference for me was no headache with booster but arm was sore for longer

daughter meant to have her Moderna booster today (vax was pfizer) but re scheduled coz possibility of being unwell might spoil the new year party plans !!

wonder what she thinks in hindsight if her party plans make her unwell ?? Hmm...this dad learnt a long time ago not to tell daughters anything, less stress and more longevity.

Maybe its just me, maybe someone with more smarts and/or medical background can give an opinion ( are they still allowed?)
But what if, just maybe, we stopped all the testing, closed the vax clinics, sent all the staff pulled out of the hospital system that are working in said testing and vaxxing consortium's and ended that obsession.
Then pour all the billions that is being spent on said locations back into the hospital system, massively increased staff because they are no longer doing their new job and are back where they are needed.
Anyone who gets sick goes to the hospital, then gets tested, then gets the required treatment, anyone who needs or wants their booster shot goes to the same outlets that did flu vax and childhood vax.
The way I see it testing clinics don't really slow the spread any more and we are all "protected" so what is the benefit of continuing down the same path that clearly does not work

The testing is about to change considerably. See the latest that the PM has pushed onto the State and Territories bar WA who agrees in principle but is delaying to suit themselves. PM says a close contact who would need to get tested would be someone who had*spent four hours or more with a confirmed case in a household or household-like setting, such as a residential care facility. The sick would also get a test. Makes sense to me with vax rates are so high. Cheers

But that will make no real difference, the staffing levels will not change and that is the current issue in the hospital system.
Yes we all see what is happening overseas, stop testing and fix the hospital system.
How does the case numbers make any difference other than continuing the campaign of fear amongst those who are scared to death of death

To put this in perspective with some numbers - Australia has so far managed to keep case numbers to about 13,000/million, and deaths to 86/million.

The USA and UK for example have managed 164,320/2531 and 186,326/2169 cases/deaths per million, more than ten times the number of cases and more than twenty times the number of deaths.

The only countries to do better than Australia, looking at countries with both reasonably large populations and credible record keeping, are NZ, Japan, South Korea, and the difference is not enormous. So while Australia's actions so far are far from perfect, it would seem that we have done a lot better than most, and compare very favourably with the most common countries we compare ourselves with, the UK and USA.
