I don't know which part of the WA Health system you work in or around, but that is not and hasn't been my experience over the last 3 years.

We are still under-resourced, under-funded and under-prepared. Wards are frantically trying to employ and train anyone with a qualification. Even chasing retired nurses to return.
Heck, as of last week several wards I've connection to still had heard nothing about any plan for the border opening (even after being announced in Dec).

We are not well resourced, we are not well prepared and if the borders open the emperor will be shown to be naked. Thus the border remains closed.

If the current decision to further lockdown WA was good for hospitals, doctors and the health of WA residents you would expect the head of the WA chapter of the AMA would have endorsed it - to the contrary he was quite scathing of the decision.

I do wonder whether utlimately it will bubble on over in WA a lot longer than it should, mutate and come back to us in the East [bigwhistle]. Dont look to the policiticans Federally to give a version of the WA further lockdown that isnt affected by polictics big time at the moment. But the WA AMA Dr, well that is another story.

I didn't say WA was well resourced. I said we were well resourced compared to other state's systems.

WA 1 dose = 94.7% Double dose = 88.4%

NSW 1 dose = exceeds 95% Double dose = 93.9%

ACT - exceed 95% on both

Qld 1 dose 91.8% Double dose = 89%

Tas exceed 95% on both

So while there has been an impovement in WA figures they are not what you have been told - good first dose but still second last on double dose.

I think if you add 12 years+ to the totals WA is ahead of NSW, but who cares really, we're all at very close to 90%+ 2nd dose. It's an old argument really.....

And there were likely to be many less flu deaths due to people isolating, getting flu shots, washing their hands and being careful like they never have been before in terms of contracting bugs - so those 2021 and 2022 numbers would have been much worse with both Covid 19 and the flu had all the precautions not been taken. The figures that count are the double vaccinated not single vaccinated and soon will be the triple vaccinated rate so yes WA is still lagging behind and need to do better.

Re comment on 12 yo - I guess you are still sniffing the WA propaganda - the 19 Jan Vacc figures include all eligible - so includes 12 year +

The issue with WA is the lack of a plan on how to deal with the long term issues associated with the virus - we used to have colds, flues and now we have those and covid to deal with probably on an annual basis - locking down no longer works - yes you can forestall but what is the WA plan to live with Covid or does the State intend to lock itself out forever.

One person dead from Covid every hour of every day this year in Australia ring a bell?

Now after that depressing statistic -my ISO is hard work[thumbsupbig] been at work doing the computer bits of today vaccinations 200+ kids and older now a little bit safer[biggrin]

I could whine about Health Identifiers, Medicare cards and a really silly person on a urgent phone call to AIR (Government type) but that might take more time than my 5 days until my next rat test or shove it up my nose options to escape and go back to do almost the same at work as I am doing at home ISO[bighmmm] Most Gov types I talk to are very good and helpful- There is always one of course[biggrin]

Mr 22 is grumbling about general all over pain but is breathing well - Man Flu covid? He was triple V'd He is not well as computer and phone are not dragging on my WIFI[bigrolf]

Back to Friday night CVAS reporting guff- the really important duplication needed for some one some where who I one day will never ever meet I am sure[bigrolf]

It is interesting to note that in both NSW and VIC, you generally don’t hear protesting or complaints about the current situation - we are not even hearing the arguments for lockdowns and restrictions from the vocal minority.

Except sadly our hospitals and health care people are doing it very tough right now and no one wants to see this.

The turn around will come and with high vaccinations, and a high % who have had COVID, we will probably be even closer to achieving herd immunity than just relying on vaccinations only.

The deaths being reported are sad, but how many of these are COVID complicated versus COVID caused? All the cases of a COVID that I know of from vaccinated work colleagues and their families are mild and no different to when flu season used to arrive when living in regional towns. Vaccinations are making a big difference to the consequence and we no longer have to live in fear or be wrapped in cotton wool.

There is probably more anxiety (at least here in Melbourne) about going back into lockdown than there is of getting COVID. And we can always go to QLD now for winter. [emoji41]

But it’s not a free for all - people are being cautious, limiting social contact, and wearing masks as appropriate. With freedom comes choice, and people are choosing the level of risk they are comfortable with - as it should be.

As a proud Sandgroper who can’t get back home to see family at present, I am actually happy being here in Melbourne as I have overseas trips back on the agenda for work.

After almost 2 years I can not wait to start travelling overseas again.

I think covid is a bit different to the flu due to the risk of permanent organ damage and Long Covid.

But same, we're busting to travel OS again.
