Whatever happens in a week or so in WA won't be nearly as bad as what is going to happen on the Eastern seaboard after the Australia day celibrations and the various protest marches by thousands of others that by and large also ignored cov19 mask and distancing needs, Especially considering that a vast number of the people involed were most likely infected with this virus.

20.2 million people on the eastern side vs 2.8 million in WA for roughly the same land area, ya wonder whyCovid Mk ll

Just before Christmas I done some wiring at a customers house who works for one of the major toilet paper manufacturers, he said that the shipping container shortage is stopping the main pulp manufacturers getting the base rolls (bloody big ones) sent off to the end product manufacturers
He heard about this through management and stocked a spare room full before they stopped letting staff buy the rolls at discount

Interesting ..... there's been various times over the last two months that Costco haven't had their own-brand toilet paper: usually there's a pile of it about 4 x 4 x 2 metres but it was entirely absent the last time I was in there.

I bought a smallish Honda generator to run the fridge on if we have power cuts the way we did a couple of years ago. Long term idea was to get an isolation switch fitted so that I can plug it into the house.

Great idea but not just an Isolation switch.

    add

Weatherproof GPO set into the outside wall close to the Genny as you can Changeover switch on the board so there is no possibility than Mains + Genny can be inputting power into the house at any time. It can happen acc to Electrical Contractors who have seen it tried. A decent waterproof extension lead with suitable plugs each end & Bob's your Uncle.

If in doubt get a licensed sparky. Power outage? Roll out your cable & kick the genny in the guts & hopefully awaaaaaaaaaa you go. BTW, switch off all surplus breakers so they suddenly do not come on line & stall the Genny. ie Fridge HWS , Dishwasher etc.

Yes, I was going to get an electrician to do it ..... that kind of stuff's way out of my league.

Our setup. There's a few more breakers now, since the solar installation, but overall, the same.

Good call and as a heads up this sort of work is required to be done by a Licensed Electrician. Installing a change over switch is also deemed prescribed wiring so whoever installs it will need to have it Inspected and issue a prescribed Certificate of Electrical Safety.

It's not a difficult job, but if you go ahead with it, make sure you find an Electrician who knows a bit about gens or you'll end up with something less than ideal - I have seen it many times. Feel free to PM me if you do want a quote - I'll put you in touch with a local Electrician who could do it. Not sure what part of Melbourne you're from but I know a few guys who cover various areas.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
