Anti mask rhetoric is absolute crap. Has been proven again and again.

How is it that we are in the age of instant knowledge and people use that to argue the earth is flat, vaccines are bad, masks are a joke and COVID isn't any worse than a bad cold? Trust the scientists. And your government. As a general rule, they are much better at their jobs than you would be. That's why they have them. Don't like how our country or local government area is run? Put up your hand if you know better.

Something I like to throw at the conspiracy theorists is - what is the one benefit to a government shutting down a country to prevent the spread of a virus? The only possible answer - to protect your health! These people are paid to protect us. They don't always get it right but they sure as hell are better at it than an armchair warrior.

Shutting down a country smashes the economy. So it's not done lightly. But an overwhelmed health service (like has occurred throughout Europe, Asia and the USA) is something we've avoided. Because it's been managed well for the large part.

So those saying WA has handled it better than the east coast actually have zero idea about how to deal with a pandemic.

Yep, economies have suffered. But it's protected our most vulnerable. And the health service. And that's worth a bit of inconvenience for the rest of us in my view.

Not just health - as was amply demonstrated over Christmas in NSW and Victoria, not shutting down (or at least using reasonable restrictions) is even worse for the economy. As has been shown over, and over, throughout the history of pandemics - but a lot of people seem to be unable to accept it.

It is not black and white. Lockdown and "let 'er rip" are not the only alternatives. There are a lot of intermediate steps.

Don't forget that those 'bugs swabbed from a face mask, were put into a dish of Agar at an ideal growing temperature and humidity for a few days and bred like (randy rabbits x10^9).
Nothing like they would just on a face mask worn for a day.

Seeing as it's Rabbit season rather than Duck season, can I have a stab at this and see if my understanding is correct? I'm procrastinating so this might ramble.

As I understand it, "Immunity" as defined by the Oxford dictionary sounds like an absolute term. "Immunity" : "the body's ability to avoid or not be affected by infection and disease". The "or not be affected by" does provide a bit of leeway though. That possibly could apply to someone who was asymptomatic, although you'd have to worry about any potential un-diagnosed long-covid effects. Anyway, back to the ramble ....

The MMR vaccine gives me immunity against Measles. I can rub up and down against someone who has it and "I'm alright jack" although I might be arrested later if she makes a complaint. It is also my understanding that the current crop of COVID Vaccines are more like training wheels for the immune system. They won't stop me getting it, they won't stop me passing it on, they won't stop me dying from it if I'm particularly unfortunate, but the likelihood is they will result in a reduced viral load (meaning I'm far less likely to pass it on) and significant reduction of severe symptoms and long COVID effects.

What the vaccine(s) won't currently provide is the Oxford definition of Immunity.

As for an infection providing any form of immunity, you'd have to ask my Niece who has had it several times in several months. Having said that we believe the first infections were Delta and the last Omicron, but as they're a bit lax in testing across the UK can't really confirm specifics.

Sound reasonable or am I wide of the mark?
