New Television Selection

OK. Left home this a.m. and headed to consumerville.
On arrival, we were quickly approached by an eager, store employee. (Something I'm sure he regretted, in time).
I explained to him our predicament and showed him the receipt etc. After laying on the 'We live a long way from here and that I returned from Moreton Island so as to be present for the delivery', plus a bit more waffle, he was still a bit reticent to come to an amicable agreement on a different brand and model tele.
I then stepped back and released "The Haggler from Hades". I stood in awe, as the transaction dialogue, between she and he, was beautifully crafted to produce a verdict, in our favour.
As a consequence, we are having delivered tomorrow, a 65" OLED LG C1 for $200 more than the original deal.

No wonder I can't win an argument! [biggrin]

Well, 30 minute unpack and set up and all good. Watched the footy and it was a class above what we had, which was pretty good.

Their ability to negotiate once your being reasonable approach has failed can be something to behold

I pulled into a car park and as was parking the car there was someone approaching the car muttering loudly and looking our way. Now for context this is not UK but am in my car which has UK plates. Due to politics this can be a problem with certain but not most local individuals

He made the mistake of approaching the passenger side of the car. Wife had appraised situation and stepped out of car giving a full broadside starting as soon as her feet hit the ground. Could see from expression on his face was not expecting a local who had even reverted to full local regional accent. Was almost funny to see the expression on his face change and his step falter

Then the flank attack. One of her sisters was in the back seat and stepped out and joined in the verbal assault. Poor bloke was walking backwards as the duo kept walking towards him.

He decided was better to make an exit than face them. I though still had to put up with a shopping trip

I recently purchased the G1 version and am very happy with it. Had Panasonic plasmas before that, so it had a bit to live up to.
Mine took longer to mate up with the new soundbar than it did to wall mount. Love how it protrudes only 20mm/ 3/4" from the wall.

I do like Panasonic's gear but I heard they don't sell TV's in Aus anymore as they felt the retailers were gouging them. I'm thinking of upgrading the old big box type Panasonic type in the bedroom, but ideally I'd like to find another brand that uses the same volume and channel control, so that I can use a Panasonic remote and has RCA plugs, so that I can use my repeater system. I might just have to take my remote to the shops and see what works.

My LG Oled doesn't have RCA plugs, everything is HDMI and USB ports.

Why not buy a S/H Panasonic plasma for a bedroom TV? There are plenty for sale on Gumtree in the Brissy area. Seems everyone needs a smart tv now! Cheap as too..

My '07 and '10 plasmas are still going strong- I couldn't wear them out or break them and they've done some hours.

Not sure your remote from the old box tv will work with any flat screen tv's but staying with Panasonic is your best chance I think.

My Panasonic remotes worked between both TV's and Bluray player etc.

Yikes! Was the "Hagler from Hades" holding a 9mm Beretta during negotiations....?

Following this thread and making some basic calculations it appears she has 'negotiated' a 25% or $1,000 discount![thumbsupbig]

The thing that favoured us was the fact that there was an 'LG', company rep in the store at the time and after he had explained a lot of the, what I found interesting, technical stuff ( did you know that, by placing your phone camera on to a black part of a TV screen, you can see different flashes, or lack thereof, depending on the screen?), he was asked, during the haggling, if he had any clout. He disappeared for a bit, reappeared, had a quiet word to the salesman and 'Bingo'!
