I've got one of the Samsung tellys too! Was never into smart TV's but it's awesome.

I thought the phone camera trick showed you if the TV remote was working as it can "see" infrared.

Yep, but this was different.

Phone ‘trick’ is dependent on camera refresh rates.

And bugger plasma - had a HD Yamaha unit for 20 odd years. Great picture and excellent at warming the room in winter [emoji16]

Could be worse - a couple of years ago I had to take my new bike light (as in bicycle light) to a dealer so the software could be reflashed.

If you want to keep using the same TVs why don't you get a set-top box? When we moved back from the UK we brought our plasma TV back with us - it doesn't have local channels so we plugged in a local set-top box. Worked perfectly and we upgraded to a new set-top box when free to air changed.
