    To see what confusion is out there, have a look at;
    http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.dealer_new_results'make_id=18&selected _make_index=&model_id=238&selected_model_index=&ke yword=&state_id=-1&selected_region=&region_id=&rego_vehicle_id=&seg ment_id=&cs_body_id=&drive_id=&door_num=&cs_trans_ id=&cylinder_num=&engine_low=&engine_high=

    Currently listed are 4 new Defenders advertised as 2006 LANDROVER DEFENDER 110 03MY X-Treme. All VINs are SALLDHM575A***** which makes them 2005 build if the VIN dating system is correct.

    We all know that car dealers often don't really know what they are selling and as you said, the VIN should give the game away but I'm asking questions as I'm not so sure. Talk about buyer beware!

    Where do we find the correct information? I've asked LRA and did not get much help.
    The link didn't work I've had this problem before with carsales when you have searches set up and saved. If you come from the front screen and copy the link it should work??

    This is intersting. I checked and ours has a 5 in the 10 position. I guess that makes it a my05. Maybe these are older ones? The ultimate test is how the car is complianced though.

    I've edited the link as I can't get it to work now after pasting either. Do a search for brand new defenders. They are easy to find.

    Thanks. This little tool - CalVIN, the automatic VIN CALculator for Land Rovers http://www.clifton.nl/index.html?calvin.html is useful.

    I've no idea how accurate it is though.

    I had a look at the Carsales site & saw the 2006 03MY Defenders.
    There's 4 listed (when I looked) & they're all 05MY cars.

    I don't know what's going on with the 2006 03MY bit though.......

    They're new, unsold cars from a dealer or dealers in Qld. They won't give the name until you send an enquiry through.

    My assumption is that;-
    03MY is the latest revision, even though Extreme was dropped when SA production ceased;
    the cars are 2005 Solihull built;
    Australian Complianced in 2006;and
    accessorised by the dealer as Extreme.

    I'm still interested to know whether 06MY is available, maybe in other markets, and what the differences from 03MY might be, or are we saying simply that 06 build cars are exactly the same as 03 build cars?

    The Defenders don't change.
    For all intents & purposes, an 03MY is the same as an 06MY.
    There's some minor differences in trim & paint but otherwise they're the same spec. Most Xtremes had bullbars fitted which the 06MY delivered last week didn't have.
