So there I was gowned up lying on the table with the anesthetist about to dose me up when I turned to the bloke who was going to do the poking about and said "If I need the kiss of life I'd prefer if you didn't do it" Probably not the wisest thing to do to someone who is going to examine your innermost regions.
Why did I risk antagonising the bloke in the driving seat you ask? Well I had a perfectly good reason for taking such a risk.There were some female medical staff in attendance and I had graded them on the 1 to 5 kissability scale. I know what you're saying .."When you get to your age you can't afford to be fussy"
Anyway he said "With the anesthetic you won't know who is doing the kissing", and under I went.
Later in the day when I was out and coming out of neverland the bloke in question came out to talk to me about how things went. Anyway all is well (with the usual "this time prefix").
"Hold on " I hear you say. "What about the kiss of life." Well I decided not to ask. Somethings in life are best left unsaid....

They'd have a mask and bag in theatre so there'd be no mouth to mouth, also they might've misconstrued your request as a DNR do not resuscitate!

At 19 I was in the little room where one got prepped for surgery (was basically having a rib taken out and pleura removed one side).

Had the needle taped in and the anaesthetist put the stuff in, I said 'Aren't I supposed to count or something?'

He just looked at me.................. Nighty night.

In a similar position for a cataract operation -

"I am not going to anaesthetise you, just some sedation so you keep your eye still, the drops mean you won't feel a thing."

A second later I was in the operating theatre looking at the surgeon's assistant moving the microscope away from my eye - the surgeon had already gone to the other theatre to do the next eye! Talk about assembly line - chatting to another few patients in the recovery room, we worked out that he did one every twenty minutes.

No. A local bloke, but I suspect he shares techniques from Fred. One notable characteristic of his practice is that most of the work is done by assistants. I think in the whole process for both eyes I actually saw him in person for less than twenty minutes despite multiple appointments before and after each eye operation.
